yes they are able to just they like to yell at me if I don't open the gate as fast as they want me to. My chickens have a 19' x 10' enclose that their coop is in. i usually open the coop at 7 am but don't let them out to free range until about 9 or 10 once they have all laid their eggs for the day then i let them out to do as they wish

a bit, I had water high on the north east & east side of the house, I had to get out with the pointed hoe and dig a drain trench, to keep it from going into the crawl space

Gosh my birds go out into their yard 1/3 of acre to them.
They have trees and wild grasses to hide in.
Smudge will give his all to save them.

We stay dry here maybe wet a bit in chickens yard with runoff is all here

Yup good way to start no bug to bother the birds ..
The sun is out here ..I had to get going to get the ash cleaned just before the box overfilled.. or another fire lit..
