Washingtonians Come Together! Washington Peeps

We were surprised to see the hummingbirds still here and active, so we'll keep the feeders out for a few more days and bring them in at night to prevent freezing (again). I thought they'd have migrated south by now.
We have resident birds that stay all year round so every winter I do my best to keep a rotation of feeders to ensure they have something to eat.

Perhaps these are also year-round residents and we just haven't noticed or seen them previous winters.

We'll be sure to bring in the feeders at night and keep them fat and fed in case they stick around through the season.

On the topic of little birds, are two one year old cats will sit on a bench and look out our sunroom windows, chirping and flicking their tails all over. They go NUTS for the birds. They pace and jump at the windows too. 🙄
We hope to convert them to indoor/outdoor cats in the future. But the female would likely run away first chance she gets. So we have been training them on harnesses and leashes. Can’t harm any birds that way.

We have some that are here throughout the year and don't migrate. I leave feeders out until they slow in summer, then wait until flowers are done in the fall to hang them out.

This is a rare weather event. How are you keeping water from freezing? It went down to 23 today.
For my chickens, I have a heated waterer. For my dogs, I need to bring out fresh water several times a day (I don't bother with a heated dog bowl since we don't have an outlet by the front door, so we keep a gallon jug by the door and refill bowls as needed).
