Washingtonians Come Together! Washington Peeps

Guess I'll be ordering "chicken run only" boots for use for the time being, though as my property has a ton of water there's no helping the fact that ducks are constantly in the area as they come here every winter through spring.

Unfortunately given how the run is set up, covering isn't really feasible, so my goal is to minimize any tracking in of stuff from the outside.

Super sad to hear about the WA bird flu cases, I was really crossing my fingers it wouldn't reach the west coast.

We already had a tarp covering the top of our run, but I clipped bird netting and other mesh we had lying around to the sides of the run (which has larger 1"+ wire holes around the top). Sparrows were flying in and out all the time to use our chicken feathers/down as nesting material. While I'm sad to deprive our tiny sparrow friends since I'm pretty sure they just live in our backyard and don't migrate, I'm not willing to risk my chooks. Will be keeping a closer eye on the next few days to see if they're motivated enough to squeeze through the gaps in the netting. In the long run I should really switch to full hardware cloth, but I currently don't have the time to do that.

Fortunately we have an extra pair of boots that we can dedicate to just the chickens, will probably be giving those a bleach wipe first today.

I'll probably stop free ranging our chickens as well - I'd be curious to hear if anyone else is and what timeframe you're putting on keeping chickens quarantined/inside a run full-time.

I had to wade to the silkie pens to feed them again today. No chance of getting the garden going anytime soon.
I have to keep repotting my squash & cucumbers in ever larger pots and putting them in the unheated greenhouse. The lettuce & spinach in there is doing fantastic. Peas, kale, radish, mustard & collard greens outside are struggling. Imagine peas struggling !

Ive had 2 reports on where it was in Pacific county, one said SW county, the next said north (not north west or northeast :hmm )
While this is ongoing it's got me wondering WTH is going on here ?
Birds get this and within 24 can drop out of the sky dead.
So let's go back from Linn County OR and from Pacific Co WA and see, where are these birds coming from ?
Most likely flying north from Mexico or farther south, through California, and then drop dead in OR & WA ????
The clincher is :
There are no cases of this disease reported in California.
None. But yet somehow this Pacific Flyway has intermitten disease.
It's very curious.
Stay safe guys !
And Happy Mother's day to all of you.
