Washingtonians Come Together! Washington Peeps

He's sure pretty. Found my cockerel dead this morning in one of the nesting boxes. He was acting normal yesterday. No sleep lost over him. He was ambushing almost everyone from behind, including a kid. Maybe he got kicked in the head or pinned one time too many. On a happy note, Xena hatched 4 chicks out, I think one is a male, so far. All barnyard View attachment 3212453mixes with the Sapphire Gem rooster. Can't wait to see them feathered out. I even think one will be white!
Gosh hard to loose a rooster that way!.
I will cross fingers and toes one is. Let me know I could hatch a few if yours aren't.

Quit possible ? Little early to tell body posture is more of tell ..
Will have to wait for a couple more weeks and maybe we'll see some big feet and growth. I have them locked in the main coop with food and water. Mama has been chasing everyone out, so best to keep the other girls from getting attacked for now. It's been so fun watching them run around and learn from her. I really like this way of brooding.

Question I have one hen that every night when everyone else goes in the coop at night I have one her that wants to sleep on our porch. And I have to carry her out to the coop each night. Any ideas how to get her to go home by herself?? Everyone else go's to bed on their own we have 2 coops and 7 chickens. We let them free range in our back yard after everyone has laid their eggs for the day. I tried keeping them in their chicken run for a week or two but as soon as we let them out she went right back to me having to put her to bed each night. Also she picks on everyone she is the main aggressor in our bunch so will not let anyone eat before she is ready for them to eat so I know she's not getting picked on she is the bully!!!! Any ideas???

I think she likes the special attention of you bringing her to the coop each night. 😁 We have a rooster and he rounds up all the hens at the end of the day and gets them into the coop. When one or two are staying out to catch the last rays of sun, we sort of corral them in.
