Smokerbill
Crossing the Road
I got them separated now. The cockerels are batching it in the coop and new run, and the girls have their sorority house next door. It was a bit of a chore getting the hens out without letting the cockerels out too. I'm afraid I scared the heck out of one of the pullets. Had to physically grab her to get her out. Hope she doesn't hold a grudge. You want to separate them until they get older. It's not the pullets, it's the cockerels that are the problem. They are over zealous right now and will be for a few more months. You need a completely separate area for them for a while, I'm afraid. I have a dedicated cockerel run and coop just for such occasions.
I'll keep the cockerels in their space full time for the next week so they know where "home" is, then start alternating nights, letting the boys free range one night, then the girls the next. Seems fair to me.
