Washingtonians Come Together! Washington Peeps

We weren't able to let the chickens out of the coop today, but by their own choice they didn't even come out to the open air (hardware cloth) portion of the coop. They stayed tucked into their house and said, "no way I'm going out in that!"
If we had snow here that might well be what mine would have done too!

Walked out to the coop not one is walking outside okay snow is lava right.
6 eggs so far. Had to walk down the yard to turn the water on, shoulda worn warmer boots toes about froze off.

Cold and the mud are a big part of why I spend the money on neoprene boots. I get 2 years out of them because doing my walking laps in them as well. I wear out the inside

As I look at the work we have to do today to take down all the netting that has collapsed under the snow, I realize it probably looks like the sky is falling to the chickens and that's why they are hiding in the coop. They are out in the open part of the coop this morning, so they must be feeling better about it today.

But I'm not. We have a LOT of work to do!!! The netting has lasted about 3 1/2 years, so that's not bad. I knew we needed to take it down last summer and replace it. I even bought new netting, but DH felt like it would last a little longer. (No, I'm not saying I told you so!!!)

It will be easier now It's already on the ground mostly.

We'll also fill the winter water tank today and turn off the water that runs out there. Pull up the dock, which is conveniently on a pully system. It will be a long day. But we have delayed about as long as we could.

Hey ho! Hey ho! It's off to work we go!!!

22 degrees here now, but the skies are clear. The chickens don't like the nipple waterer now that it has the birdbath heater in it. The water is slightly warm and it works, but it seems the chickens can sense something. Maybe a small electric charge??? I filled a bowl with warm water a couple times today so they have something suitable to drink.
