I love the first year of a hen's life. You get so many eggs. That tapers off in the following years.

26 out here and no snow to speak of in our little area. What happens in town is not what happens here necessarily. They say 3-5" on weather.com, but out here we may get more, or none at all. We don't really have a reliable weather source for our area. When we look at the radar of the area, it looks like the weather is going around us and not on us. Lucky us, but wonder what we'll find if we venture out.

The chickens are venturing out in the snow, but often going into the small structures around the orchard and hiding in there. Maybe they want a different view. Who knows the mind of a chicken. I certainly don't.

Birds here are venturing out of desperation what 3 or 4 days of snow.
Barney was first to step out, a few others barred that are young,
I have a merino wool t shirt bought at Costco pulled it out today.

Mixed up a double batch of brownies. I can smell them cooking in the oven.

it was 18 yesterday morning and made it to 22 - I have 2 water jugs with 2 gal. in each, I swapped them out every 2 hours, same for my hummingbird feeder.

Oh good you just reminded me to go swap hummingbird feeders. I'm getting glared at a lot by the little buggers. I had to swap 3x yesterday.

Making tiramisu cookies here. They smell heavenly.

Did add cherry jello to cottage cheese for tonight.
Maybe some shortbread cookies.

We did each try one cookie before dinner. They are very good!!! They don't taste perfectly like tiramisu, but they are close. They have the kalua and coffee in them, and a dusting of cocoa on top.

North is Seattle here, it’s 18f, headed for 12f. Checked the hens before the snap started, made sure the bucket de-icer was working. It’s been working well for me for many years: Bucket de-icer . All seems to be well.

Wow, that's a pricey de-icer. I got a birdbath heater for a lot less.
