Washingtonians Come Together! Washington Peeps

Our chickens are definitely not enjoying the heat, but we put ice in their water and give them cold watermelon every day during the heat. They do like that. Luckily they have shady areas to get into. DH turned the sprinklers on out there to cool some areas for them. They are just small sprinklers originally installed to water young trees and berries. Not needed for that anymore, but work great for creating cool areas for chickens. Luckily it's about 10 degrees cooler out there, so that helps. Their coop is pretty shaded at the edge of the forest. My broodie seems to be doing okay in there.

As for me? It's too hot!!! Should be 10 degrees cooler today, but we are heading into Longview, so I expect it to be hotter in town. Only 68 here right now. Been getting down to the 50s at night.

The new carburetor for my weed eater is supposed to arrive today. If it fixes the problem I can finish trimming around the garden beds.

I gave my black currant plants a good soaking with water this morning. Out of 18 plants, a couple died and a couple, I think, were eaten by deer. Also watered the horseradish.

I still have a pair of raspberry plants to set out somewhere...

It was 107 F yesterday, supposed to be 111 F today. Unfortunately, I lost one of my birds yesterday to the heat. She was my oldest bird, a little over 6 years old.

When we hit 116 a few years ago I lost several birds. Chickens just cant deal as well with the heat.

Im sorry you lost your girl

Ah crud worth labor to fix or new truck?
We made it back from town in one piece.
I have a few more quinault strawberry to plant is all lettuce seed also.

It's 27 years old and in very good shape otherwise. Much cheaper to fix. We'd never be able to afford a truck with its capabilities since it has the full tow package as well. I think it has everything that could be on a truck in 1997. Heated mirrors are very nice in winter.

Not like it needs a new engine. A gasket or seal went bad somewhere. Coolant system will need flushed but that was probably due anyway

I'm guessing a couple thousand. Still cheaper than a new truck. This is the vehicle we use for towing and hauling bigger stuff
The engine in my 2011 Ram 1500 failed a couple years ago and I had a Chrysler-rebuilt engine installed at a dealership. I had them replace the torque converter, hoses and water pump at the same time as a proactive measure.

Total cost was a little over $12k, but it was worth it to me. I like the truck and it was cheaper than getting a replacement vehicle. So I can relate.

And dang, the breeze coming in through the window almost feels cold compared to yesterday's 100 degrees. It's 72 now. NICE!!!
