Washingtonians Come Together! Washington Peeps

I'm enjoying this cool 72 degree afternoon. I gave the garden a good watering and pruned the tomatoes again. A few of my red Russian kale plants are going to seed. I'll let 3 or 4 of them complete the cycle so I'll have plenty of seeds for planting and sharing.

The last few hours I moved my TV/stereo setup, trying to come up with a livable configuration for new furniture I had delivered from Wayfair. I got a new sofa, an accent chair and a recliner. It's cheap stuff but if I get 5 or 10 years out of it I'll be happy.

When I put the hens away for the night yesterday evening the poor girl with ascites didn't move from underneath the coop. She ate a kale snack with her sisters in the morning, but was lethargic most of the day. She's in a better place now.
:hugs Good for you Bill. I had to take my Dottie “for a walk in the woods” this spring. Same reason.

It Is tough to say but we all face that at some point.
My banty frizzle is in full molt she is naked on her neck.
This was the first time I had to euthanize a chicken from this flock. Thankfully she went quickly. Doing the deed wasn't too difficult because I was focused on making sure everything went smoothly, but afterwards I felt a little queasy.

It's a hard thing to do. As you know, we had to do it this year too, for the same reason. The second one that came down with ascites, we treated differently, and just made her more comfortable by draining the fluid, until she passed on her own. I preferred the latter, as she didn't seem to be suffering once we drained her, and died peacefully out in the run with the other girls.
