Washingtonians Come Together! Washington Peeps

I don't know. You could call them. They are using one exclusively I believe, based on the conversation I had with one of the chick tenders there. Several years ago, they mentioned it was a hatchery in AZ, but I don't remember now which one, nor do I know if that is still the one they use. If you find out, please share. I also got my chicks there this year, 3 weeks ago. Maybe we were in line together. 😁

No prob! I’ll ask!
I couldn't say which hatchery they use either, but out of the 8 barred rock chicks I bought 2 years ago, 5 still survive. I lost three due to reproductive issues.

One passed overnight and was laying on the floor in the morning. I found she was laying eggs internally. The other two were euthanized due to severe water belly (ascites), and probably also laying internally. I didn't necropsy the 2nd and 3rd loss, just the first.

They were/are all exceptional egg layers, bred for producing lots of eggs at the expense of their reproductive health. The remaining 5 are for the most part healthy, but one is consistently laying thin shelled brittle eggs, maybe due to molting.
thanks for sharing! Sorry for the 3 early deaths :/ that’s disappointing and sad for the hens.

Hey never bought from a hatchery have bought a few at our local feed store in Onalaska never asked where from.
Kim You are pretty fortunate to have a great surgeon.

Mom said that had I been there when I did it, I'd just have a floppy finger for the rest of my life. I've seen soldiers with much worse in therapy. They do have good doctors

I went out to give the chickens their freedom in the day run and noticed some luscious weeds in the garlic patch. I pulled weeds in the rain and gave them to the girls since they haven't had fresh weeds in quite a while. I picked up one nice egg and only got one yesterday, so I'm expecting 3 good ones today.

I got 7 out of 12 of my peppers moved into larger pots this morning, then ran out of potting soil. A half gallon pot holds a lot of dirt!

In a few days when they get over transplant shock I'll set them on the south facing living room window sill until I plant them outside in a couple months. I want my pepper plants to be huge when they're moved outside.

Looks like they will be good sized when you move them. Mine are just little sprouts!

I'm hoping so. The last three years I haven't had full size peppers to pick until the growing season was nearly over, and peppers love heat, especially the hot chili peppers. My goal this year is to get earlier peppers and enough for making my winter supply of salsa.

I'm down to 14 pints from the 27 or so I made in September. I could have eaten more but I've been trying to make them last until I start making more this summer.
