Just finished vaccinating 19 chicks. Whew! We had a great hatch of mixed color Marans chicks this weekend. I'm wiped out. My next job is finding them all homes, which I thought would be easy, as it has been in past years? But so far I'm striking out. I'm kind of excited to see how they grow, but I also don't have space to keep this many

There is a run on chicks in all the farm/feed stores. There must be a lot of folks looking for them. Wonder how you can get the word out. I'm not on Facebook, but I hear that is one place to do it.

I got 4 nice clean eggs today instead of the three I was expecting. 4 out of 5 is a good day.

Got all 12 pepper plants moved into larger pots too. Good day in spite of the bad sinus headache from the flu I've been suffering.

I'm partial to marans, but a lot of new chicken keepers aren't familiar, and the idea of straight-run chicks is daunting. I've been through four people looking for "2 guaranteed female chicks" already and had to discuss how a small farm doesn't sex chicks. That said.... I'm pretty sure I could pick two female chicks out of the box, but I would definitely be charging extra for that dubious skill

We've been preparing the dirt, but the only thing planted is the garlic. Seedlings are all in the greenhouse.
