Washingtonians Come Together! Washington Peeps

After more of the molasses and water the third chick is starting to perk up. It's eating and drinking on its own but still has a hard time walking. I think he'll make it now.

Adding the two new chicks to the group helped, I think. More chicks and more activity seems to encourage the weaker one to move around more, and teaches it to eat and drink.

Oh, I didn't realize you got another two chicks. So now you have 5?

The chicks have integrated themselves. They are now roosting up on the roost bars, although on the lower one. So they have their own space even on the roosting bars.
I saw that my pullets were up on the roost bar next to the old hens yesterday evening. Chicks on one side, big girls on the other.

Yes I do. Picked them up at Wilco this morning. They had quite a few on hand now that egg prices are dropping. LOL

Molasses where what we use years ago many are still good.
Blackstrap molasses has lots of nutrients in it. Calcium, iron and potassium, plus a lot more. I got a deal on a gallon of blackstrap so me and the chickens will be set for a long time. I started using it in my morning coffee. Better than white sugar.

:sick But then, coffee has to be strong and black for me.

So funny that you are already calling your chicks pullets. I haven't gotten there yet in my terminology, but I suppose they got there on their own and didn't need me to recategorize them. :gig

Wilco describes female day old chicks as pullets. The struggling chick that was improving yesterday took a turn for the worse.

I used to be black coffee only, but now I like about a teaspoon of sugar or molasses in the cup, and sometimes milk if I have it. I rarely eat any other sweets or desserts, so a little sugar first thing in the morning shouldn't hurt. And I like the sugar/caffeine boost I get. When I want chocolate I eat a piece of a Baker's unsweetened cocoa bar.
