Washingtonians Come Together! Washington Peeps

I'm pretty sure the 7 New Hampshires I got are all female. I think I'll be set now with the 7 NH and 2 RI pullets, and a pair of NH cockerels. I lost the struggling one today.

I gave the girls outside a few bowls of wet feed. Since I started feed the higher protein All Flock feed the eggs I get are much better quality. Larger size, better shells and bigger yolks. I still need to look for those real crushed oyster shells...

I still haven't chick-proofed the fencing around the day run so all 12 have been confined to the secure run and coop for the last week. It's about 120 square feet including the coop, so they have about 10 feet each, and they seem ok about it.

I'll try to work on the day run this weekend. I'll also need to build and hang a door of some kind.

Sorry you lost the little struggling one. The hatchery is still sending you a new batch, right?

Seems like you have enough room for the littles to me. The space my littles were in was smaller than that, I think. They are out with the big girls now and did have access early on. There is a door big enough for them but not the bigs.

Thanks. Sad to see him go. I almost didn't notice that he was still alive and put in in the box with the others that passed. Then I saw him move a little, so I tried to save him. I guess he just went through too rough a time.

No, I cancelled the replacement order and got a full refund. The two cockerels will serve my purposes for now, and hopefully serve the pullets later on when they're all old enough.

The New Hampshires are supposed to be a moderately broody breed so maybe I'll get lucky and have a couple good mother hens.

They all look like pullets to me. 😍

Ok, so of the new chicks you have 7 girls and no boys?

The seven chicks I bought in early April are all pullets. I have two healthy male chicks that survived the shipping earlier this week. And I bought two female chicks to raise with the males.

So... I have nine young females, two young males, and five old hens.
