Washingtonians Come Together! Washington Peeps

This heat can go back to the deepest pits it came from.

No AC here. I had the house open all night and closed it up late this morning. Got up to about 76 inside.

Got another egg today, so 4 from 5 again. Good size egg too. These New Hampshires are having no problems laying their first eggs compared to the barred rocks. When they started it was lots of soft shell eggs and double yolkers. And they pretty much quit laying after two years.

We were in AC all day too, so the heat didn't bother us. Not sure it got up to 90 anywhere we went, but wasn't paying close attention either.

It was a good day. Tomorrow I have to get to the garden and see if things are getting past prime there too. I hope not. DH does look at it daily and waters on rainless day.

He set up an irrigation system in the veggie beds so it's easy to do. Turn it on when he goes out to make his rounds to the chickens and feral cats and turn it off when he gets back. Sometimes it stays on later if it's particularly dry out.

Happy to have our last med appts for the month behind us.

It finally happened. One of my cockerels started crowing this morning, or at least tried to. At first I thought it was a big dog howling. It went on for a minute or two around 6am then he quit, and hasn't done it since. I think he heard a neighbor's rooster off in the distance and that set him off.

I have one last zucchini squash plant left and it has a big squash on it. I think I'm going to let it keep growing and use it for next year's seeds. I've eaten enough zucchini for one year already.

I'm pretty happy with the heat wave we've had this year. It looks like it will at least last through next week.

And that means a good tomato harvest. :ya I picked 5 lbs today and I know I'll be picking another 5 next week. Then I'll make some marinara. There are tons of tomatoes out there so as long as the weather stays warm I'll be harvesting weekly for a while.

And beans! 4 lbs of those too. Those will be blanched and frozen today.
