Washingtonians Come Together! Washington Peeps

Water heater sprung a leak late last night, thankfully I heard the hissing sound as I walked by after finishing the dishes. Nothing like googling "How to shut off gas to water heater" "How to shut off water to water heater" and "How to drain water heater" at 11 PM.

Plumbers are here now installing a new one. Figured I'd have them take a look at a drippy sink while here, and they found 4 other valves that were leaking too. Joy. :(

I feel for you

We have a wall heater on demand to hook up.
The water heater here is like 30 years old.
The people that set that water heater in ran it through the floor.
The on demand is up next to the old one. They are both in the panty.
I do not know how to do the wiring cannot afford a plumber.

Costly for sure, I had to set up a finance plan because I don't keep money in the checking account and deliberately keep my credit card limit low, so I need time to move money around. We already replaced another water heater a few years ago and that one was over 25 years old.

Hubby decided to have all the stop valves replaced on every sink and toilet (and we have a stupidly excessive number of bathrooms and sinks), so that inflated the bill even more.

Good morning Washington! I needed some parsley at the last minute last night and went out to my greenhouse where I grew the herbs and there was parsley, still trying to grow. Also the tarragon is growing and of course the oregano. The oregano is a weed as near as I can tell. You can't kill that herb.

Anyway, it has inspired me to try something new this winter. I turned on the heat and the grow lights. Today I'll go out and trim everything back. Any herbs that are not growing will be replanted. Wouldn't it be nice to have fresh herbs growing during the winter?

Always one grand experiment after another around here. 😁

My view is kind of cloudy. No bright sunshine yet anyway.

The chicks are growing fast and seem to be feathered out pretty nicely at 14 days old.

They are looking healthy, Bill!

Cleaned out the herb garden and added some seeds. It will be interesting to see what comes up. It's a comfortable temp in there so I think this just might work.

I cut the parsley way back and also added some seeds. It was getting quite woody, but some of the plants are still producing so I didn't take them all out.

My guess is the dill and cilantro will not come up, but might as well try.

I didn't add any tarragon seeds because those plants are still producing like crazy. Same with the oregano. Started over with the thyme and I have a feeling that one will come back.

Yeah, they're all doing great. I decided to weigh them all today to determine which, if any, are growing bigger and faster. The top four weighed 157, 147, 146 and 145 grams. Two were 138 grams. 136, 132, 125 and 122 grams for the smallest four. I'll weigh them again at 4 weeks old. I banded them all with colored zip ties so I can tell them apart.

When they reach laying age the largest ones will be breeding stock for the next generation, and I'll keep the largest cockerel too.

My tarragon is a perennial plant out in the garden and comes back every year. Freezing weather doesn't bother it at all. You could try planting one of yours outside this fall. I'm sure it would do great.

A few weeks ago I shook all dill seeds from the plants onto the bed when I cleaned up the garden for next year's crop. All of my dill this year came up as volunteer plants. I still have a lot of fresh dill heads and leaves in the freezer.
