Washingtonians Come Together! Washington Peeps

Just removed poor Blossom's body from the cage; she was, I thought, doing better as of Friday, but yesterday she went downhill fast and she was gone when we came back from shopping.

It's so trivial, but in my house it's a big deal, especially since Dearie is having a noisy fit looking for her cage-mate.
Applesauce. Willyou be able to replace her?

Laughing Feather, I so totally agree with you re: endless quoting of the same post(and usually many photos). This goes on in nearly every thread I visit -. After I go thru ninety zillion of the identical quotes the only new matter is usually a "x 2 or x 3 and so on," or one line of reply, beneath them. This is also what makes such slow going just to catch up on the latest news. I brought this subject up before and everyone was silent for a bit. Then they started the quoting endlessly again. It is horribly boring, it needlessly pads the amount of replies/pages, and downright confusing. I think to myself 'I've read this already," and skip thru as many copycats as possible trying to find fresh comments. This in turn makes me miss the few truly fresh responses without the quoting and quoting within the quoting - I just want to scream.

I think the buttons are seriously overused and I'd love to see them omitted.

My nephew was so bad that his parents where told to institutionalize him when he was young. That he would never be able to make it in society. He is now a top computer geek with a well known computer company and he did not go to college. Don't give up on those poor kids that have temperament problems. Yes, he is still a weird person. Not social but he is happy and living the American dream.

When a thread is as busy as this one, though, there can be multiple conversations going on simultaneously, some repetition is necessary. It can get confusing that way, but it would also be confusing without it. Sometimes it's good to be reminded of the flow of conversation, otherwise, it can seem stilted and out of context.

Also, if you want to be able to have nested quotes (handy!), it can be tricky simply to quote one particular thing. Takes a lot of editing, etc.

SO-- it's a nice idea in theory, but not as practical as it sounds. Ideally, people would take the time to edit the quotes down a bit, but I find it simple enough just to not expect to read every last word anyway.

See? I just finished typing this, and the post above me (6023) is about nothing I was talking about, and it was about nothing in the post directly before that. And the one before that was a conversation going on for many pages.

Nested quotes.

It's a good thing!

I'll write to Kristin tomorrow- see whether I can get any pullet of the same age, any color- I was going to build up my population of Porceleins as she had them to buy, but I can't even consider moving this chick outside in late January without at least one other friend for warmth.

I am extremely bummed, although I suspect that Dearie somehow injured her pelvis (she was twice the size from the beginning and prone to standing on the smaller chick) and don't know what I could have done short of housing them separately from the beginning?

all the new peeps.

Hi to all the old (and young ) peeps. Hope everyone's having a blast this holiday season.

I just turned off the pressure canner - a big batch of duck chili for the pantry. Tonight I shall take the sourdough starter out of the fridge and mix up a batch of bread, ready to cook tomorrow. I love it when the house smells of cooking bread.

Where is everyone?

Hi There! Thank you for mentioning "sourdough"!!! I've had a batch of rosemary SD bread dough in the fridge for two days (or is it three?). I wanted to take it out tonight to rise overnight and I almost forgot. Thanks for the reminder!

And thanks for the mother starter you gave me CarolynF. Soon as I recover from hurt back chasing stupid chicken syndrome I hope to use it!

I also enjoy hearing about everyone's canning adventures. Duck Chilli? I have a pot of ham hock and beans I am thinking of putting up in quart jars.

I am sorry to here that your girl lost her fight for life.
