Washingtonians Come Together! Washington Peeps

We got home today and when I let the birds out to range, I noticed Mongo was all pinkish red around his head, so I caught him and looked at him. His earlobes are torn up bad. Little flap of skin sticking out on one. He was skittish, but some bread reminded him that I'm a good person and he let me clean him up. When I put him back out he was wandering around, then he mounted one of his girls and then here comes Fabio (silkie X EE rooster) flying over. He started biting Mongo and the girl ran off, then Fabio started spurring him, almost got him in the eye, left a mark just barely below it on the bone. Mongo had tried to fight him off for a moment then tried to run.

Then a few minutes later, Duke my other cockerel was just wandering around eating grass and Fabio goes for him. Duke saw him coming and ran for it. Duke is faster luckily.

There are 27 girls in that pen to the three boys. So not a ratio issue. Then when I tried to check that jerk tonight when the birds were getting on the roost, he jumped at me.

He'd had an infection going on a week+ ago and I'd given him Tylan, so I'm not wanting to eat him. He's a year and a half and probably really tough anyway. But dang it that aggressive jerk has sign his own doom.

I was willing to let him live out his life as a flock guardian because he's been very good at watching for hawks and gives the girls most of what he finds. OOO that bird has made me angry.

Maybe I'll dig a big hole and plant him then my douglas fir sapling.

Frodo is doing great! She is eating and drinking, and her aim is better when doing both of those! She is starting to itch a lot, especially the chin area where it was not as deep.

I went to two petstores, three drugstores, and two vets but none of the medical cement. I ordered some from Amazon next day to be here day after Christmas.

In the meantime, I switched from hydrogen peroxide to a saline solution per a pharmasist I spoke to. Continuing antibiotic ointment anytime it looks dry.

She is a really good house chicken - she sits in a very short box on a tv tray table with a perch that has paper towels, food & water. She doesn't go anywhere.

How about using some Liquid skin? http://newskinproducts.com/products/liquid_bandage.aspx

Hi Jessica,
I'm new to this forum but have lived in the Tacoma/Olympia area on and off my whole life. My husband will be retiring after 26 years in the army so I know the deal. I'm pretty familiar with the towns around here, how far they are from the base etc. Where you decide to live depends on a lot of factors besides your poultry. Message me if you have specific questions. I live in Olympia and it's about 20 minutes from the base without traffic. Most city limits will limit the amount of poultry you can have but when you get outside the city, it's pretty open. I live in Thurston County just outside the city limits, I have no restrictions. Good luck! If you like being outdoors in any weather you will love it here! Theresa.

Thanks for the Christmas morning laugh and welcome.

The wind is howling and the slush is blowing sideways. Headed out in a few minutes to pick up leaves.

Russ- Merry Christmas Everyone!
