Washingtonians Come Together! Washington Peeps

It was pretty average: at least I didn't have any cows OUT! The grass is still growing, so they're only going through one round bale every other day, and the Spitzenberg and Grimes Golden trees are dropping apples, so they're not hungry but they do want attention.

Yesterday I had a Heather in, and before that I got a spam text on my phone at 4:50AM, so I was on the edge of falling asleep all day. We got a whole lot done in the time she was here, although that included going into Lacey to buy groceries and make a payment, and sealing up some drafts and vacuuming and getting the cardboard and plastic recycling off the place, and zero construction work. Today I have to deal with the incredible destructive powers of a bored sheep, so I won't get any of the few things I can do by myself off the past-due list, either.

The dogs are pretty obviously at the point in their lives when they're not digesting things efficiently, which makes for lots of poops. They're also both too stiff to self-groom, and I do as much combing as I can, but still end up with giant chunks of shed hair to clean up. I'm always a little suprised they're both alive in the morning, and have to admit that feeling is something I will be glad to be done with, when the time comes.

I had to take my dogs off any kibble/food with wheat, & corn.....after that they were fine !
Seriously the dogs would go out & poop in the side yard everyday...same poop spot...and it wreeked of Corn Tortillas out there !!!
That's when I figured out there was too much grains in the dog kibble...so we went with lamb & rice, works much better.
No more Taco explosions !:gig

Oh, we long since stopped feeding anything with corn, as Griz puked it right back up!

When they were young, they had poop places; now they mostly go as few feet as they can out the back door and do it in the path, or wander around the yard following my tracks and poo wherever they get the urge. But they can still get up and down and enjoy life, so they get to be annoying for a while yet.

I'm not tiny by any means! LOL! I'm 5' 9". Cocoa and Rocha are huge for 6.5 weeks. Blackie is, too. Blackie is almost the size of Cocoa and Rocha. All three of them literally are about 1/2 -3/4 the size of my big girls Rhodie and Caunnie who are 9 months old. I'll try and get pics of the other two today. Maybe it's Cocoa, Rocha and Blackie that are just large for their ages and Latte is normal sized...

Wish me luck in finding my camera today. We took those other pics on a phone. The transfer process from phone to the computer process is still a little confusing.

That why I haven't posted the other pictures. I'm trying to think what event I took that camera to - I know I had it at the Veteran's Day Parade. Hmmmmm.

So maybe CR pumps his birds with createne or something

Quote: So according to that ordinance, Kids cannot be noisy outside. How does that work. I guess I would be cited for my surround sound system then, with the house closed up you can hear the bass over half a football field away. Sheesh, sounds like your town has gone a bit overboard.

We have a noise ordinance, too. Because I have a neighbor who will call animal control, I get very nervous when my chickens start to "sing". But my girls are quiet in the evening and night, so I think I'm OK. There have been times when Rhodie has gotten very loud for some reason or another, so I've gone out and run a power saw just to camouflage her squawking. Our ordinance says power tools can be operated between the hours of 7:00 a.m. and 10 p.m. I'm glad I have a back-up plan when it comes to noise. LOL! Personally, I'd rather listen to a chicken, but if it takes the sound of a power tool to keep me out of trouble with the noise ordinance, so be it.

Gotta tell ya though, sometimes I wonder about people. Ever since a neighbor told my kids to stop bouncing a basketball in the cul-de-sac because it was too noisy, I've been on edge. I hate that feeling of walking on eggshells in your own neighborhood just to keep peace. Of course, I was just spiteful enough to have spent the next two weeks playing basketball WITH my kids in the cul-de-sac for a couple of hours each evening after that happened. As far as I know they haven't sent my kids back into the yard since. As far as I'm concerned if people want to live in a quiet 55+ environment, they need to move to a 55+ environment, because kids need to be allowed to be kids.

My husband said some of our neighbors are the type of people whose houses he would have egged when he was a teen. It made me laugh, especially thinking they'd better watch out - our kids will be teens in a few years, and we have a steady supply of eggs. LOL!

I totally laughed out loud at that one!!

Hey - anyone else play the silly farm game on the ipod, iphone or ipad called "Hay Day"? OMG! I'm totally becoming an addict. The naked sheep crack me up. And the cheesy grins on the pigs faces are too funny. LOL! If you do play it, add me to your game center and it will help you expand your sales shop. I'm "itsRKC".

Sevin Dust or Eprinex?
Well, I'm almost out of Sevin to dust for the probable mites on my BSL. I don't much like dusting chickens so I'm thinking about switching to Eprinex. But I've never used it and don't know the pros and cons. It sounds like it's easier to apply and lasts longer than Sevin, is that true? What would y'all do?

Eprinex is so easy to use. I picked up a few syringes without needles that marks low dosages. I just go in after dark, use a little light and get them on their roosts. They just sit there and complain about me touching them, but don't move. Really easy.

Now getting the silkies is a bit harder as they sleep in a pile and will run squawking out into the dark if I grab them. Silly birds.

Fiery was like that near the end. She could see a little but couldn't hear. She'd just follow me around slowly and went where ever she felt the need. We started having a few issues in the house as she was getting forgetful sometimes.

The two we have now are on grain free. Found out very early on when Athena was a puppy that she can't do wheat. I guess GSDs have that issue a lot. They get the Kirkland stuff usually since it's a good food, or if I can get a really good sale, Taste of the Wild. Normally they poop once a day. I only give them grain free treats as well. Just have to yell at them to keep out of the chicken food.

Just checking in. How is everyone? I can't read back very far so I only catch a couple pages every now and then, bummer. This weekend I have 3 extra kids; I'm watching my sister's boys while they take their girls on a trip. Eek! Doubling kids for a weekend is fun but a lot of work! It's also one of their birthdays today so we're baking cupcakes and having a nice dinner to celebrate with him. Hoping to catch up more later!
