Indeterminate High anthocyanins

Open pollinated, Indeterminate 70 days A new release from Oregon State University, from the breeding program of Jim Myers, dept of horticulture.

Indigo Rose has beautiful eye-catching hues of deep purple where sunshine hits the fruit to red/orange where a leaf or stem shields an area from the sun. The saladette sized fruits are excellent in salads, for snacking and I even canned a few quarts this summer.

There has been a buzz about this breeding program for some years because the deep purple colored skins and surrounding tissue are extremely high in anthocyanin. The flavor is quite pleasing, much more so than early selections several years ago.

A classically bred tomato like Indigo Rose is the result of ten years or more painstaking selection. Dr. Myers steadily walked the fields, tagged and numbered the promising lines, and grew out the seeds from those selected plants the following year. These tomatoes were continuously evaluated for color, flavor, and yields. In future years we expect to see offspring of Indigo Rose with additional traits. The presence of a high anthocyan content offers some disease resistance. We are delighted to introduce Indigo Rose as the first high anthocyanin tomato. From fighting cancer to fighting wrinkles anthocyanins are regarded as one of the chief reasons to eat our deeply colored fruits and vegetables.

Jenn S watching her wobble her head, I wonder if her ears are bothering her. Ear problems can readily affect balance. Years ago, clear out of the blue, I was having major dizzy spells, and when I walked on level ground, I had the feeling I was climbing stairs. Had to hang on to grocery carts for dear life, people probably thought I was drunk.

Doctor explained it had something to do with "crystals" in the ear- and did some positioning of my head and it seemed to help alot. Hope I got that right. No matter how much doctors 'dumb down,' something so patients can understand - I still never do. I really thought I was having a stroke- thankfully it wasn't.

Benign Paroxysmal Position Vertigo. I would get it off and on for the last few years, until it finally settled into just getting dizzy very very easily. I know a couple of people who have had problems do to the alignment of the crystals or whatever (yeah, I don't get it either, the explanation was 3rd hand). But after reading some threads about wry neck or crook neck, that is *exactly* what my silkie has!

For those of a certain age...
Your youth in pictures How many do you remember?

If you can remember most or all of these, then you have lived!

Oh My.... my youth revisited. That was fun. So sad to see it all fading away.

I had the vertigo thing last winter after having a long lasting sinus thing. Went in for PT which helped immediately. The crystal thing was explained and I understood it, but not sure I can repeat it well enough for anyone else. lol The PT basically shakes the "crystals" off the tiny hairs inside the ear so they will stand up straight at the same time YOU stand up. If they stick to the hairs they weight them down (like heavy snow does to branches) so your brain thinks you're still bent over.

I will never forget the time I grabbed my father-in-laws Brylcream and thought it was toothpaste in my sleepy state. Talk about a quick wake-up! Yuck!!!! In my 60's so most of those things are of my time. Chatty Cathy was my nick name as a kid. Nothing worse than being named Kathy and verbally blessed as a child. Chatty Cathy. My mother used to say I never met a stranger and I was vaccinated with a phonograph needle.

Is that what causes it. I have had it also. It was the kind of trip that kept me scared of taking hard drugs. Couldn't crawl across the floor. Eyes darting back and forth. Room spinning. Not pretty!

Quote: Yep, the coop where you weigh your chickens or check your ground pressure. I've been in/every dang one in this country.
As to Greg's post, I remember each and every one of them.
McD at first it was a walk up to one window to order and pick up your food at the next, much like the drive through is now. No eat in, Dairy Queen was the same.
Those were the days, a hamburger, fries and a milk shake for .89 cents. Whatta deal.

Cruising was not illegal when I was a teen.
Oh yes, Downtown Walnut Creek, CA in a Burgundy 51 Chevy Coop, 4 on the floor, racing wheel, black tuck and roll upholstery, raised in the back beyond legal limits and lowered so low in the front it was funny. And as Bill Cosby liked to say in 200 mph. It had pipes, pipes.... LOL. Learned to drive on Mt Diablo, it was so raised that I was level in the car going uphill. Good memories. Cruising down to Mel's drive in and getting cherry cokes with onion rings dipped in Roquefort Cheese dressing.

These are the things I have been told to have on hand when you own Silkies because they get mites and lice so easily. It may seem like overkill but sometimes you may get an infestation that is hard to get rid of and you may need to try different things.
Permethrin, in poultry dust form and I get the liquid concentrate that you mix in water to use in a sprayer for spraying coop down.
Sevin dust- this and the poultry dust can be placed in a nylon and basically puffed on.
Adams Flea & Tick spray
Frontline spray, I have the stuff for cats in the unidoses that I am going to use, so either works. But I will eventually pick up the spray. (It's expensive!)
