Washingtonians Come Together! Washington Peeps

I'm with you. Sex, religion, and politics (gun control comes under politics) don't belong here. They belong in the random ramblings section.  Anyone who wants to talk gun control should go there to start a thread, properly labelled, so people know what they're getting into or can choose to avoid the thread.  I don't want to be ambushed here.

I also would like to thank Dr. Bjorn Netland for his post. Though I love you guys, I have found it difficult to be on this thread especially the last few days. He expressed my feelings exactly and I commend him for speaking up when he feels so outnumbered. I have to say it was a painful shock to see a photo of someone so proudly displaying their weapon, and all the support she got for it so soon after such a terrible tragedy. As the mother of a teenage autistic boy who has been dealing with occasional bouts of anger since reaching puberty, I can tell you that a child who is sweet and loving 99.9% of the time can seem almost possessed with anger when he is feeling ostracized and teased by his peers. You wonder what happened to that beautiful, happy, well adjusted child you had raised for 12 years.  With kids on the spectrum, their responses frequently are not to scale with the offense they felt was committed, though it is almost unheard of for someone who is autistic to draw attention to themselves in a manner the killer did. Thankfully, my son has never been violent, but a lot of how the killer was described in the media could apply to my boy - incredibly smart, does not fit in, few friends.... I believe in my heart that had the killers mother not been such a gun enthusiast, he would not have found guns to be an acceptable outlet for his frustrations. Those beautiful children and their teachers would still be here.

Thank you, Ogress, for saying this so well.

When my DW gets home in a little while I am gonna have to instruct her on how to set up the small brooder without a heatlamp so the Silkies stay warm. We tend to loose power a lot here, all the dang trees in to country. But I would rather have that than street lights.

Just removed poor Blossom's body from the cage; she was, I thought, doing better as of Friday, but yesterday she went downhill fast and she was gone when we came back from shopping.

It's so trivial, but in my house it's a big deal, especially since Dearie is having a noisy fit looking for her cage-mate.

I enjoy reading the responses to everything and enjoy the varied topics. I think one thing that might make things better on this forum would be for people to edit their quote posts. It can get a little overwhelming in repetition. This might help appease those who do not care for the chit chat as much because it will be easier to page through the forum quickly and glean what they want.

I try and edit out info I am not commenting on or if it just gets too big to keep it going. I have a feeling now that you stated this that this post is going to be huge.

That would be me! Yes, I proudly posted that picture. Guns don't kill people, people do! My DH anD I GO TO THE RANGE all the time to practice with still and moveing targets. I will defend myself and any one around me at the time.
Many people are talking about making guns illegal. But why? Drugs are illegal yet thousands or more use drugs and always will. Alcohol is not illegal yet kill so many people! Guns will never go away wether they are illegal or not. We will still have many people killed by guns unless more resonsible people carry. I do feel that there should be some sort of mental testing done before and every so oftem after buying fire arms. But what about knifes, should those be outlawed as well?
I belive that schools should mot be gun free zones! Teachers and other school staff should be trained and licenced to carry and made to carry in school at all times. Metal detectors amd.gards that are unarmed will not stop anyone that is deturmained to kill as one gard found out by losing his life because je could not carry at the school he was to protect.
When you go to a bank you see an armed gaurd and do mot blink an eye. You feel safe and know that your money is safe. Are your children not more important than your money?
Do you really feel that we should lose basicly our last right as people? That amendment was put in place for the people not to protect us from other people, but from OUR GOVERNMENT!
Let me inform you on how alike you and I are..... We have 5 children, one of those five is our DS Titan. He also has mental problems that we are in a very long progress of getting him diagnosed. He is very smart in math and great in art. He can be one of the sweetest kids you ever met, on a good day. On a bad day he is violent, makes threats twards himself and others and many other heart breaking things. He is 11, and I know the struggles. Guns are not what shold be looked at, granted I feel the mother of the school shooter should habe been responsible and kept the guns in a locked safe. Mental illness is what should be taken care of. If you go and look up all the places that have mafe guns illegal, you will see that gun crimes have gone UP! You take awayour guns only the ”bag guys” will have them.
As far as you not liking my timing after this tragity, does that mean we should not drive our cars after someone is killed in one?
I also commend you and Dr. for speaking u but again we are all friends here and speak of mamy things other than chickens.
