More needlepoint. I'm liking the 5 gauge rug canvas. It's much easier on the hands and eyes. It's perfect for folk art style things.

I'm using a seven gauge canvas now for a Christmas stocking. It should give me smoother curves and finer details.

Our neighbors have a fence that's about to completely fall into our yard. It worries me - because if it goes down, it could go down on my birds who love to dig in the garden bed just below it. It has been 13 years since I first asked if we could go half-sies on that fence and replace it because it was so worn out 13 years ago. I want to switch it out to chain link, too - just because it will help give my garden beds more light. I'm not keen on staring at the stuff that they store on their side yard, but having more light would be great. I have a feeling it's going to have to fall and damage our yard before we'll ever convince them to replace it. The other neighbors around them had to wait for those other three fences to fall before they got replaced. The one between our yards is the remaining tired, old strip of wood fencing. I tried to get them to agree to it over the summer again - but still wasn't successful. There's one section that I would be surprised if it continues standing, and that is the section that my big girls hang out in the most.

That's very unreasonable. What jerks! Do you have anything (or things) that you could place in your garden to keep the fence from just coming straight down and mushing your girls? If they see that the thing is coming down toward them and have a chance to dash out of there because something is slowing the fence or letting it fall just partway, they'll just end up a bit flustered. I hope they stay safe!

Well I just finished hanging the feeder in the coop, and putting a waterer in there. I have to figure out a better way though because a small part of the feeder is hanging where it could get pooped on if the girls roost too close. I need some sort of cover to keep it completely sheltered from falling roost poop. The waterer is right inside the door on a concrete block and will be MUCH easier to take inside to wash and fill now that I don't have to go in the run to get it. I'm so happy with the small modifications we've been making!

Renee - sorry about the fence. Those neighbors sure don't know the meaning of "neighborly" huh?

We had a tree snap off and come down on our neighbors house today. Thankfully, a skinny alder and just the top and it did no damage and they where gone, so we cleaned it up on their side and are waiting for them to come home and see it. Our tree took out the power also. Glad we had a generator to keep the girls warm. It has been snowing and raining and snowing so much here in Poulsbo that the chicken coop is slushy outside. Girls won't go out at all.

Maybe you could sort of casually "lean" on it and it would start falling in the direction of its owners rather than toward your birds. Seems like if it's causing a danger the local authorities might have an opinion about its removal. It could just as easily fall on a child.
