And back to you and your's Miss Toni !!! Sorry Dyson missed out on his Spiffy's pie !!

Good news - about 56 hours of the chills and feeling like death and now I'm on the mend. I think the fever is gone (I don't feel like I'm laying on ice packs anymore) and I can stand and walk straight! Yes people, if you can still get vaccinated this year for the flu, please do! Apparently this is going to be one of the worst flu years in decades, AND the vaccine is one of the most accurate; save yourselves! DH didn't get it, I assume because he was vaccinated. Firefighters have to be.

Bad news - William has it now. Woke up with 104.8 degree fever and screaming for hours this early morning. Finally got some meds in him during a calm moment and within an hour his fever was down to 100.5...MUCH better! And now he's playing ping pong with his brother.

Frodo is doing great! She is eating and drinking, and her aim is better when doing both of those! She is starting to itch a lot, especially the chin area where it was not as deep.

I went to two petstores, three drugstores, and two vets but none of the medical cement. I ordered some from Amazon next day to be here day after Christmas.

In the meantime, I switched from hydrogen peroxide to a saline solution per a pharmasist I spoke to. Continuing antibiotic ointment anytime it looks dry.

She is a really good house chicken - she sits in a very short box on a tv tray table with a perch that has paper towels, food & water. She doesn't go anywhere.
Hi. Haven't made it back here since before Christmas.
I found your post so intriguing...but first, wonderful news Frodo is doing great

... am so amazed over your description of her behavior indoors.
Did you post a pic later? I am so behind reading posts.

Wondering how she is doing these days? ~Dee~

SOOO happy to hear that you're feeling better!! I hate the flu, but never get vaccinated and seldom get it.
If your little guy had that high a fever, I'm guessing that as soon as he get tire from playing, it's likely to hit again. My mom was very strict about us staying in bed when we were sick. No TV, no playing, just sleeping and a little food and juice. I don't know if it was that or our genetics, but we stayed much healthier than our friends and neighbors.

Hope your new year is a healthy happy one!

Have you ever tried to keep a strong-willed 2 year old in bed? Um...not a chance. If he's feeling up to playing, he's allowed to play. Whenever the meds wear off again, we'll give him more and lots of snuggles when/if he's feeling bad. No reason to make kids more miserable than necessary by forcing them to be in bed at such a young age.

Quote: We also have our kids stay in bed or in their rooms while they are sick. Not only to keep them resting and let their bodies heal but also to keep less of a chance of anyone else in the house getting sick. Then their rooms get wiped down so they don't get it again. I also will not give our kids meds. unless they have a to high of a fever. Our kids hardly ever get sick and when they do it passes very fast, they are normally only sick for about 24 hours even with the flu. I have noticed that when the kids are in classes that insist on them using hand sanitizer all the time they get sick more often. So I make sure that if they have a teacher that does that I talk to the teacher so they don't make my kids use it all the time.

Oh I am so glad that you are feeling better. Very sorry that William has it now. I always feel so helpless when my kids are sick. Hope he feels better soon

I'm SO confused by both of you!! Are you really telling me that you would confine a 2 year old to his room alone? I have 2 other kids to take care of (as do you FM!), so you would really confine a 2 year old to their room alone for most of their illness? I'm a pretty strict mama, but not heartless. My kids deserve lots of snuggles and comforts when they're sick; they lay on the couch and watch TV a lot, sleeping when they need the sleep, and rarely do all 3 kids get the same illness even though I don't "quarantine" them. We're also not sick very often, we just so happened to get the very first flu since I had kids 6.5 years ago. Please tell me you don't actually make your tiny ones suffer through illness alone in their beds...

Jessica~ Relax :) We all have our own ways. When my kids are sick, I let them do what they feel up to. If they are throwing up, I require them to stay put in one place with a pot, but otherwise they are free to do what they want. It is useless to try to prevent an illness from spreading within a family, IMO. Once a kid is showing symptoms, they have been contagious already awhile, so the damage has been done. My kids get sick at school more than they get sick from each other, or so it seems. When mine were two years old, I was still breastfeeding, so keeping a sick 2 year old away from me would have been impossible LOL. They were pretty much attached to me 24 hours a day when ill at that age.

RE: fever in kids: I don't treat *just* a fever in kids until it reaches 101+. A fever serves a purpose. I treat a high fever (over 102), otherwise I give them meds to relieve symptoms if they want them. If the refuse, they must not be suffering that much. Kids will have a higher fever than an adult with the same illness.

If they stay home sick from school, I ban them from TV, video games, etc. They can play with toys or read books and be out of their room. Staying home sick from school shouldn't be fun. I don't reward them for staying home to avoid faking illness when they're older LOL. They've never done it, but I certainly did when I was older (in middle school and up) but I was at home alone and could do whatever I wanted to do.

I've been hearing much of the same Flu symptoms from a variety of my clients and a staff member and her husband. Luckily, as noted it tends to be mostly limited time in otherwise healthy people. I mean, better 2-3 days then 2-3 weeks.
There is a flu medicine, Tamiflu which if given early enough can make a big difference.
I don't know if 'human' doctors would require an exam to call in a prescription or not. They may become willing to just call it in to your pharmacy. So, please do consider to call your doctor as soon as any signs show. It may make a difference between life and death in someone that isn't otherwise healthy. Remember we may think we are healthy but might not be.
Although gotta say, getting these fantastic fresh chicken eggs for 2 months now has got to be the right track for me.
Take care everyone.
Lisa
