Washingtonians Come Together! Washington Peeps

My EE Janis was in the nest box a long time today and I was getting worried. Finally she made her song and I checked on her. My EE just laid a 83.5 gram egg! My other EE's lay eggs in the 44 gram range. 83.5 gram blue egg from my EE. Talk about wanting to breed that one, now I really want to hatch some of her eggs.

Very Nice! That's down right exciting!!! Wanna trade -- my EE for yours?

Did you decide on a breed yet, or still after one of those sex-links? Oh, and this is my latest go with the SD. Stuffed rolls, (bad pic though) - one is herb, onion and cheese, the other sausage, mustard and olive.
Yummy! I've never tried stuffing bread like that. I'm certain DH would love it! I'm assuming you just roll it up that way before the final rise? You're wine looks very pretty, too! I'm impressed by the label being so perfectly straight. When I label things they're always a little askew -- like me. :D I want to replace my EE with a nice Americauna, I'm thinking I can do that in Monroe in April, so I'll be window shopping here on BYC in the weeks before the show. Plus I want to get something that is a real laying machine without being an overly large bird. A gold star is on my short list but that's not cast in stone. The sex-link I mentioned to you the other day would be nice, too, but not available. I'd love to have all 4 girls lay different color eggs but if two lay standard brown eggs I can live with that. Not sure I want white -- a white leghorn isn't high on my list. My priority for this one is quantity and reliability of laying.
My GSL is smaller than my EE's at the same age(16 weeks) and is prolly less than a week away from first egg. Her comb has started coming in and so are her wattles and turning red. And she squats for me, but not my rooster. Hahaha, she knows who is top rooster in my flock.

I do a sort of pizza thing - make it thin by spinning then I spread with either mustard or softened butter. Sprinkle with herbs and cheese (or other stuff) and roll up, let rise and bake as usual.

This is a really cool way to make starters, or snacks - you just cut them up while warm, no mess and they go great with beer! (for the menfolk).

Thanks for the SD recipe, going to try it tonight

It is almost ready for finishing touches!!! Got the nest boxes and the doors and windows cut out and there's a front porch and soooo much I can't wait to show y'all!!! We My dad made it out of 80lb plastic sheeting that is 1" thick. Pretty heavy duty stuff and most uncommon, but so easy to work with! Pretty soon it will be time for CHICKIES!!!!!!!

Thanks Carolyn.....

No, she is my lap sitter also. I also want to go with Ameraucana. I want to get some eggs. I want to get a incubator. Hubby is my only holdup, he sees chicken math and knows me. I used to save feral kittens that my 3 Rottie girl dogs would help raise.... I had 7 indoor cats that my dogs refused to let me take to the pet shop out of the dozen of litters we raised on bottles. We built outdoor runs so our cats could go outside and not get killed. We had a cat hater in the neighborhood in CA and I lost several in a short time to him. So all cats inside. We still have 4 of those cats after 13 years.... Lost 3 this last year.

So, we need to find a real good Ameraucana breeder. And decide what color we are going to go with. Any suggestions? So glad you got your extension on your coop.

Well I just wanted to hop on and let ya'll know that I got my chicks today!
The post office called me at 7am and let me know I could pick them up at 8:30 and when I walked in it was funny cause I could hear them chirping in the back room.
They are so very cute and I want them to be all feathered out right now so I can see what they are going to look like. I will add some pics later or tomorrow, I am being VERY lazy today and I do not want to get off the warm couch.
Hey Farmin Momma, where did you order your chicks from??

Pips&peeps is a good person to go to. She lives on the other side of the mountains though. You could do a search on here and her name should pop up. The last place I remember seeing her post was on the Chehalis show thread.

Just getting over the stinking flu. Man! I was in bed for 3 days straight! But I have been sick since last weekend. It just didn't get bad until New Years Eve. I finally went out and was able to do a few things today. At least the tempurature was better. That cold air really hurts to breath in when you are sick.

Hope everyone else is doing well and stay healthy.

Going to make my chickens oatmeal in the morning with Calf Manna supplement in it. They loved it! Supposed to be a good supplement for chickens and all sorts of animals.

I haven't been on this thread in weeks or BYC for that matter so am way too far behind on this thread to go thru them all. Just wanted to pop in and say that I still breed and show the WBS Ameraucanas if Laughing Feather is interested in that variety. The WBS variety needs a lot of work but my birds have done very well at all the shows when they have any competition. Though it is usually a solid color that will take BB. At least thus far.

LaughingFeather, if you (or anyone else for that matter) is interested in knowing more or have any questions, it's best to send me an email. Not sure how often I'll be on BYC or this thread.

God Bless,
