I was toying with the idea of limiting my chickens' feed until a long timer broke down what they're actually eating for me and I realized how good I have it. My girls are each eating 3.22 ounces per day, which is just under 1.5lbs each week per chicken...75lbs a month for the flock of 12. That's pretty good right?

I go though 50lbs right now, keep in mind I normally free range all day(that has changed due to hawk attacks) and have the chicks too. I know once I get the new coops and covered runs built after Hawaii trip in a couple of weeks, feed consumption will go back down a little. But I am also starting Fermented Feed tomorrow. That should reduce consumption even more( creates a better conversion rate)

How do you ferment the feed? Isn't that labor intensive?

That's how my flu started. Then it morphed into body aches, horrible headache, and high fever. Take care of yourself! Influenza A is the DEVIL!

I will only be using 2.5 gallon buckets for mine. I got enough info off the first 5 pages of this thread. Read all of Beekissed's posts, she has a lot of great info.

You can now order online. Not only is it cheaper if you wait till day of sale no idea if what you want is available as we found out the hard way last year.
Year before that we bought at Tolt Middle School but they cost more.
This is the best way to do it.

Uh Oh! That's how mine started. I was down for the count since Monday. I felt better yesterday and even better today. Hope you get away with something mild.
