Washingtonians Come Together! Washington Peeps

Latte is out in the backyard. I'm five minutes late for where I'm supposed to be. By the time I get there I'm going to be 20 minutes late. Please send good chicken vibes, wishes and prayers Latte will be alive when I get back. There's nothing else I can do. I can't catch her.

Call 1-800-Chicken Rustler...

It's a darn good thing at at least some of you like those ugly silkie bird looking things.

I think it's all that fluff! Soooo much to learn! What's the difference between a white egg and a silkie egg?? Anybody ate one? I am curious to know how all that dark meat tastes

gawd almighty does this rain ever stop for 3 or 4 days during this time of the year?
I normally (oxymoron there) don't get exercised by the weather but goodcoogamooga folks, it's getting rediculous. Some old guy knocked on my door, said his name was Noah and wanted to know if he could use my back yard to build a boat?

Ok, time to exercise your minds; What was the very first song you learned to sing as a child?
Mine was "Pistol Packin' Momma". I was 4 years old and sang it so much my parents friends threatened to gag me.

Ok, I just gotta vent to some of my fellow washingtonians. Is it just me or did the sun NEVER come up today???? I swear it was dusk all day! I couldn't figure out why my chickens wanted to go out so badly when all I wanted to do was hibernate. Its tough to homeschool your kids from a coma! I am desperately praying for an early summer. I am so jealous of people in warmer areas or with bigger barns who are hatching already. I want me some peeps! And I need the sunshine for that so come on spring. Let's get on with it!!!!

(yes I do realize that I live in the Seattle area and spring won't actually be here for another 5 months but seriously, today was ugly!)

Thank you for letting me vent. I feel better now. :)

I know EXACTLY what you mean since we're three minutes apart. My girls and I want the sun to come back.

I have a few newbie questions that may sound stupid but inquiring minds want to know.

I was advised by an expert to be sure to isolate any new chickens for 30 days before trying to put them with my girls. If you are going to add chickens is it better to add more than one because of the 30 day isolation? They have a buddy? How does a single hen do caged alone when there is a flock of hens running free all around her. I have no yard fences, only the coop enclosure which is about 8 x 15. I would have to put them in a tractor I guess.

If you are hatching eggs from different sources do you need to worry about contaminating anyone with something?

Do the home made incubators work as well as the purchased Hova-bator? Is it worth the effort and cost to build one?

Do chicken diapers really work or does it drive the hen nuts?
