Washingtonians Come Together! Washington Peeps

I totally understand your frustration. The dog that grabbed Rhodie was a bird dog (lab) and the owner insisted that their dog was just a pet and wasn't trained to hunt so he wouldn't have gone after my bird. The dog was in my back yard and I saw Rhodie in it's mouth. Oh boy, that was a "fun" discussion that DH ended up having to come mediate. It turned out OK, and those were some difficult days, but relationships are finally being mended.

Another neighbor has a cat that has been in my yard and stalking my chickens. The big girls are pretty good about chasing it off, but I do worry about Latte. Gun use is not allowed, although I have been mad enough to threaten pulling out the BB gun. DH has talked about getting a pellet gun. I don't know. The owners gave me permission to spray it with the hose - yeah, like I'm going to have time to run over and turn on the hose if my chickens being attacked.
Me, I would go the paintball marker route. Hurts like the dickens, leaves paint so the owner knows it has been in trouble, and is non-leathal. Don't get one from a sports store though, go to a paintball shop. Tell them your situation, they should not try and up-sell you. And they can set the velocity so it is effective. The markers out of the baox are usually factory set too fast and thus causes LOTS of paintballs to break in the barrel(mess to clean) and at too high a velocity, accuracy goes WAY down.
Quote: FYI Paintball MARKERS are not regulated. you could use paintball to deter the cat. OR put the paint balls in the freezer. a well placed shot and problem solved !! DO NOT PLAY paint ball with frozen paint !!!!!
Paintballs won't freeze unless you put them in liquid CO2 or colder. The fish oils inside the balls keep them from freezing for just that purpose. I have been playing for over 12 years and a good friend owns a local paintball shop. If you can get a ball to freeze it will expand too much and not go through the barrel.
SUN!!!!! I can see it!!!!! It's only about 10' above the horizon so it won't last long, but SUN!!!!!!
Sun, what's that. Haha. Looks like may be wintery drive tonight. I soooooo hope not. This week has been bad at work(I had to do a delivery route Monday night and unload 2 trailers worth of product. Normally it would only be 1 trailer)

I thought "snowdrops" were flowers?
Yes, they are and that's probably what she was talking about LOL. I thought she was talking about snow because other people around me on Facebook are reporting snow. Hallerlake is about a mile from me so I thought it odd that she had snow :)
I had snow this morning, for about 4 hours. It stuck, but quickly melted away when it turned to rain.
Here's a pic when I first got up:

A quick shot of Malvina, Tegan (rosecomb) and Sarah (straight comb) around sunset today. Imperfect, but I thought Totalcolour would like to see:

She looks very happy and healthy - her feathers are really nice! All three are nice! These are Hamburgs I assume?
Yes- and as small as they look next to an Australorp, they're actully bigger than their mothers; I suspect being raised in a mixed pen with Brahmas had a negative effect on the elder girls growth.

May I say as a huge fan of the breed; yours is a very nice looking Australorp hen. Also may I ask about her history; where she came from? How old is she? TIA
