Washingtonians Come Together! Washington Peeps

Quote: Well she simply won't be moved to the rabbit hutch so she's currently in the coop nest box. None of the other girls will use the other coop nest box, maybe they don't like her making such a racket at them to go away when she's sitting on eggs, so they're all laying in the rabbit hutch instead. So they really only go in the coop at night where Lucy is with the eggs, I think I'll put up a chicken wire barrier and give her 1/3 of the coop when the chicks arrive, and see how that goes. I won't let the others have access to the chicks until they're a few weeks old. I will probably start letting Lucy take her chicks into the chicken run (but tnot the yard with everyone else) when they're a few days old.

Did anyone else notice this review over on the side of our screen.....

I gotta ask.... if the hatch rate is only 20% WHY do they "love it", and why is it good for Beginners, and WHY give it a great rating???

(btw, that's a rhetorical question) Well, at least they included their stats. so a person can decide for themselves. That's more than many people do.

I did see that! It's the weirdest review ever!

I have a question for those in the know about the chicken fanciers in our region. Are there any other breeders of good Ameraucanas (not EEs) besides Jean and Royce? And would they be likely to attend either of the upcoming shows? I'm still shopping for a pullet that will be about 3 or 4 months old this spring. Maybe a blue wheaten.

I'll go poke around the Ameraucana thread, too, but wanted to tap into the knowledge base here.

Thanks!
Carolyn

Those are the only two I know about except Cree Farms, but I don't think they have any Wheatons, blue or otherwise. They are in Seabeck, but will usually meet at the Kingston ferry. Their birds are beautiful, but maybe a little skittish and wild.

You can google their name and check out the website. But Royce and Jean are probably your best bet. Royce should be at the show. Not sure if Jean will make the trek over here or not.

Well,my Grandson decided he likes the chickens. Went in and gathered eggs with me this morning and he is only 2yrs old. I love him so much. :) I came into my Sweethearts family 10 months ago and his 2 yr old grandson has latched onto me ever since. We are babysitting him today and he has been such a joy. Me being as young as I am has lots of people scratching their heads but I absolutely love being a "young Gramma" and my grandson loves gathering eggs with me whenever he is here for the day. He even is trying to say "chickens" and was excited when I had him look in the nesting bucket to find 2 eggs!!!
