Washingtonians Come Together! Washington Peeps

Lost a chicken other night last night I was waiting for it.

Between the neighbors and I we have got rid of the raccoons until new ones move in some day so I knew what would be there when I ran out there because of the way it killed the other chicken.

Sure enough he came back and I got my home run swing bat out and hit a few home runs.

I think my chickens enjoyed the show.

Tonight the chicken that was attacked last them tried to get in the other coop.
It was her feathers I found from the second try so she done good.

Looks like I'm going to need to enclose all of the top of my runs now as i will be just a matter of time before a new one comes to take it's place.

Looks like you went all Mike Tyson on that thing. Good job. Even before I got chickens, I always hated opossums.

I'm new to the forum, thought I'd say hi to the peeps on WA. I'm in the Maple Valley (South King County) area. We built a small coop last year for our first 6 chicks, and are in the process of building a larger coop and increasing our flock now that we're moved to some acreage.

Looking for Wheaton Marans, Barnevelder, Welsummer, Polish, Faverolles, Lavender and other Orpingtons, Speckled Sussex ....the list goes on and on....We've got a couple acres and let them free-range when we are around to watch out for hawks and eagles.

Here's our first coop, which we will be using to raise the younger birds, since it's built with 1/2" wire to keep them safe, and we can keep them in the kenneled-off area to keep our older hens from picking on them :

Welcome! I'm in Covington, we're totally neighbors! We should get together sometime. Nice little area you had set up, I bet your girls will like the new coop too. Can't wait to see pics. We have a dozen girls including a broody sitting on wood eggs; she'll be given chicks on Feb. 12th and then we'll have a total of 16 if they all live.

OK so far for the south meet up it looks like mikeb, Sarahkatie, Mr and Mrs CR. itsren is going to try to come down if her schedule allows. Also Since my place is only 5 miles away I would be willing to allow visitors after the meet if anybody wants to see my little dumpy coops. Sorry we have a tiny house so I couldn't host a get together unless in nice weather.

PLEASE PM mikey or E-MAIL me if interested

I'd have come but weekdays don't work for me going far. I'll try and catch up with people at a different one. I'll definitely see people at the Monroe show

Not the one I'm talking about. I got her as a roughly two month old chick from poularde along with a cockerel the same age. I did get two little wheaten pullets from Jean at the Chehalis show. I don't remember how old they are. They aren't laying yet but one did squat for me the other day. They absolutely love the wheaten boy. I swear chickens are quite capable of telling who's the the same breed and hang out together. (Silkies are racist little rats. At least my silkies are. The rooster chases anyone who isn't a silkie after they grow up and he figures out they aren't the right breed.)
