If i wanted to feed my chickens flax seed, where would be a good place to buy it?
I buy it at winco for my family and my chickens. As well as other bulk grains. They also have black sunflower and corn for 59 cents a pound. The chickens LOVE it. I buy several different grains and such there for my chickens. It's cheaper to buy it in bulk and you can buy small amounts at first to find out if your chickens will even eat it.

urgh. I dont remember what I paid. Last mixed up scratch back in September. Only mix it two to three times a year.

My chickens fight over the unsalted roasted peanuts in their scratch. Those are expensive, so flaxseed prices don't bother me since I don't use as much of it.

My birds love Block oil sunflower seeds. Sometimes i give them lentils or quinoa if I want them to have more protein.
My mom never thought of feeding black sunflower seeds, she started feeding it in December and her hens started laying regularly again. They had stopped laying beginning of november. She is sold on feeding it mixed with the scratch now :)
I never thought of feeding lentils. Do you just feed them raw? I see them there at winco every time i'm there. I never get them because I've never ate them and don't know how to prepare them for humans. My chickens feed is often mixed in a dish daily for scratch. So much of it is from my gallon jars of dried foods for my family. I like feeding my animals human grade foods.
Though I also feed allstock.

What do you put in scratch?    A lot of scratch i've seen in stores is simply cracked corn.    I just give "bird seed" which is millet, black sunflower seed and corn.

These are not in order of amount. That changes.

Whole wheat, cracked corn, whole oats, whole rye, pearled barley, lentils, peas, safflower seed, milo, millet, BOSS, peanuts, flaxseed, and quinoa.

They will do anything for scratch. They like to beg and convince DH that they haven't had any treats.

Raw lentils and peas. Never raw beans.

I cook lentils with chicken broth and add a little butter for just a basic side at dinner. I do the same with quinoa. Goes very good with smoked pork chops. Juice soaks in. Cooked broccoli and a bit of cheese is good in it, too.

We eat pretty simply most of the time. Small piece of meat, two veggies, and either lentils, cous cous, potatoes, or quinoa.

Thank you, I'll have to try them. My doctor and nutritionist have me on a restricted diet. I'm not allowed white rice, potatoes, wheat, or corn. I'm allergic to wheat and corn :(
I eat very simple, 2 veggy dishes and a meat, Or i'll make a dish that has veggies and meat mixed together like split pea soup and ham.
Recently I found yellow split peas I am going to try them. My chickens and ducks love them.
