Washingtonians Come Together! Washington Peeps

Sounds like a great day! I did that recently and I'm so happy stuff is clean! Now if only we could afford a huge dump run, I could get rid of all the trash in the backyard that makes us look really...erm, trashy.
:yuckyuck

Haha... We've waited over a year to do that .......That's what we are doing today..., 2 dump runs later it looks tons better, now we just have to put away/organize the stuff left :)

NOW I GET IT. I just stood outside with my chickens and suddenly a HUGE EAGLE was standing on the ground about 8' away from me trying to get one of the chickens!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I'm certain it didn't see me, either from hunger or because I was standing there so long and not moving that it thought I was something else, but what an ordeal! Chickens flew in all directions and were on high alert for about 30 minutes. It took me the whole 30 minutes of traipsing all over the yard to round up all the chickens and put them back in the run. Not even treats made them come out from cover, they were so scared! Guess they will be confined for the rest of the winter at least, until other food is more readily available to that eagle. I could have sworn he got Ethel because I didn't find her until right before I came in the house; she was in the run, in the rabbit hutch, laying an egg! She had no clue what all the commotion was about. Dartha was the one (my Australorp) who almost got eaten and she was found hiding underneath a bush standing stone still. I can't believe I found her!
I chased eagles out of my yard in may and August. I'm not sure it's a seasonal thing. Make sure there's lots of cover.

I am ready to pick up some chicks and wondering if anyone has an opinion about buying them from Monroe Farm & Feed?

I think a lot of people get theirs there. They'll be great layers, but you won't get anything show quality. As long as that's OK with you, go for it!

Well I just have to jump in here. Talking about eagles. I have had the worst predator year this year. I used to have my birds free range. The coyotes started taking way too many. I have my birds in a large yard with uncovered pens now.
Now I have hawk and worst of all a falcon problem. The falcon is so small I would not think he could get my birds. He killed my favorite broody girl Luna. She will be sorely missed. My favorite pic of her leaping. She was such a feisty girl.

Luna was quite small. Not much bigger than a bantam. Last week the falcon actually killed my big old Jersey Giant hen. I would never think he would of been able to kill such a large hen.

I am working on covering pens and areas to protect them more. Cover helps but both my girls were killed under a huge bush.
