My hat is off to you Sir Mikey!! Oh ~ the "eye" of a true breeder is to obtain the yet unobtainable!! I've had 2 hatchery RIR's that were the most productive girls in the hen house (I had 17 total at the time), and regular as clock work, AND they ate less feed than the other girls did. However, they were overlooked (by me) for the beautiful Speckled Sussex hen-lady that was less on laying one egg per/day/week, however, she was so faithful in watching me and doting around my feet all of the time, that I adored her completely for her personality. I probably would have bred her and collected her eggs before considering the ones from the RIR's... just because she was so unique to me and I would have liked to produce her personality in her chicks. (Does that happen in chickens?)We are in agreement.
Actually, I have looked into heritage line of RIR. I don't see very many that breed the Heritage RIR, of course they may not be listed on the internet for whatever reason and have given up that idea and yet the breed needs to be restored.
Perhaps I'll turn my attention to English Orps and a cross between my Blue Roo and "hatchery" RIR. Who knows what might hatch? (yes pun intended)![]()

i wish it would so i could give her a chick and be done with this broody behavior.
Also good arguments to give her for why she needs to keep the chickens, anyone have ideas? All i got is store bought eggs taste gross, fertilizer is expensive, and the chickens keep ya from having a lot of waste (they eat all the table scraps). Oh and "I'll buy the feed for them" is my other argument for her to keep them. Hoping it works.
