Washingtonians Come Together! Washington Peeps

I admit I'm crazy. I'm gonna go get those chicks on Friday and try giving them to Lucy as well. Gonna put them under her before I go to bed and hope she likes them in the morning. If not, I'll brood them

I just really want the 2 Barred Rocks I bought from SFS too!

FarminMama - do you have a brooder if I bring you 2 chicks on Friday?

The *original* chicks I ordered haven't been picked up yet. They hatch tomorrow and I can pick them up Friday. Didn't want Lucy to wait that long, so I got her some different chicks yesterday.

Oh okay. you don't have a plastic tote, some sawdust, and a heat light? That is what i have as a brooder when they first hatch and after 3 days i move them to a play pen with a heat lamp on them. yes a real baby playpen They are babies they need their own playpen/crib.

PC running amuck once again.
TC made a statement that was based on her experience.
I felt same way as her.
Some times you just got to let nature take it's course.
One could actually be doing more harm then good checking on her all the time.
That is the choice Jessica made which is her decision.
TC was just commenting on how she does it.
Both parties communicated.

It's a shame someone can't come on here using a term that describes what TC felt was going on and because someone else had an experience with that term in a negative way TC or anyone else shouldn't use that word?

I disagree with that.

My bet is there are many many descriptive statements made all the time on here and thousands of other forums where some of us had a bad experience with a certain descriptive statement.

Yet, when we can't talk to each other based on our experiences afraid someone else might have had a bad experience with the same statement made it becomes a sad state to live in.

OH yes I have that stuff (I brooded these chicks overninght in a box with heat lamp and paper towels (but I have shavings too), I'd just rather try my luck at getting lucy to take them off my hands. If it doesn't work it will be no problem for me to brood them in the house. (If I'm being honest, I'm actually picking up those chicks HOPING Lucy won't take them so I can have some fluff balls running around to play with in the house

Sweetlilbaby - were you referring to me asking if FM had a brooder? I was thinking about giving her 2 of the chicks because I would have too many if I got 4 more on friday. Maybe that's what you were thinking of...I don't need to borrow a brooder from FM ;)

Hi all.... Just got mostly caught up on reading.... With only the phone to respond with, I have a really hard time responding unless I see the post right when it is submitted.... The red/white coop is beautiful, and so is the dog. So happy Lucy seems to be taking to her chicks, and mr. weihrs/Kummer poultry contact info is listed on the welsummers breeder page on the club website, so glad that worked out :-)
Dang, that was a lot of reading to get caught up! There's no way I'm going to go back and try to quote every interesting post.
:frow Welcome to all the newcomers, we're happy to have you here.

SarahKatie... great looking coop. It's actually pretty similar to mine (but prettier)... before we expanded last week! Now mine is 6' long and a little shy of 3' front to back, so about 18 sq. ft. But 6 LF will be my max using 3 sq ft. per bird. Are yours bantams?
I was figuring 2/2.5ft sq per bird based on a couple of books as well as the fact that I have the door open at 5:30/6am and they they are only in there to roost and lay and my pen is tarped on top and 3 sides.... If I was somewhere colder/longer I would def have something bigger....... Plus I have food/water outside the house.... So right now I have 12ft sq, as the coop is 3x4..... Hmmm will have to think on it some more, lol maybe hang the nest boxes off the right short side... And the add back for flor space but put a leg or two under it.
400
... And just for fun
400
I have 5 hens and got~~ 4 eggs Friday, 3 sat and 4 today ;-) I LOVE having chickens!! It's like Christmas everyday!!
