Washingtonians Come Together! Washington Peeps

I've been getting 4 eggs a day more often than not lately! (from 4 laying hens: white leghorn, red sex link, black sex link, buff orpington). The Rhode island red is molting but was a great layer before that, so I could get 5 some day soon! Black Jersey Giant and BCM are "sort of" squatting for me. They consider it at least and let me cuddle them. I'm sure they'll be laying soon. The white araucana shows no signs of laying.
My three pullets that just began laying, never squatted for me before laying but I figured that is just because I have at least 3 mature roosters! Do you guys have roos?
Yes, I have Pig Pen. But I am the rooster to the teens, they are only just now beginning to submit to him. But the EE's still like to hang out around me. Amber(GSL) is starting to hang out more with the main flock. None of the older girls squat for me, they are Pig Pen's girls. I just like that they are at POL, finally.

I'm getting so mad at the site i ordered a kennel from to seperate my ducks and chickens.    I ordered it last thursday and they still haven't even shipped the package.    It's a kennel it cannot take this long to even make the materials for it.   I ordered it with their 4 day shipping.  Then contacted them and they said "it will show up 4 days AFTER we ship it"    Well that is totally false advertisement.   when i click 4 day shipping in expect it to show up in 4 business days.

I'd never do business with them again. That really isn't right if they are advertising a certain speed and aren't doing it.

Ok I don't know if you can see the chicken wire in the semi dark with my iPhone camera, but it's up and ready now for the chicks and mama to have about 1/4 of the run. I hope they don't try to jump over it, it's 4' high.

Here's the family in the hutch now

If they go over the wire, they will pay by the wing of Lucy. Hahaha. Glad they took to the rabbit hutch ok.

I don't plan to. Petsmart has the same kennel for only $10 more. that extra $10 is worth it to get it on time. I ordered it from that site because it was cheaper and i thought i'd have it by tuesday. For me how fast i could get it was important. I'm going to have to crate my ducks or crate my chickens until i can get that. I really hate to do that to them.

First time ever -- but I couldnt keep up, so I've skipped the last 10 or 12 pages.

I sure am enjoying the 'spring' this weekend :)

Did you skip the pages where Kim and I talked about having you build stuff for us?

Must have.  I'm sure we can work out a coop tour this summer - my DW is totally behind it :)

And maybe I can host a huge WA backyard BBQ when you're out! Would love to see you both again :)

Dang, that was a lot of reading to get caught up! There's no way I'm going to go back and try to quote every interesting post.

Welcome to all the newcomers, we're happy to have you here.

SarahKatie... great looking coop. It's actually pretty similar to mine (but prettier)... before we expanded last week! Now mine is 6' long and a little shy of 3' front to back, so about 18 sq. ft. But 6 LF will be my max using 3 sq ft. per bird. Are yours bantams?

FWJ... You're having way too much fun with your fluffy new baby toys!

Don't listen to Kate, she's just jaded after being at this for SOOOO long!

Kate.... I made bread from the Italian starter yesterday. I made 2 batches exactly the same except for the starters. We had 7 people do a blind taste test before dinner. No one could make out a discernible difference. They were BOTH totally delicious!

RobJ- the roo in the picture is a silver leghorn.

To see the Russian Orloff, do a search for breeds on BYC and click on "images" to see them. His were already in bed when we went, and it was to dark for a photo where they were bed down. They look similar to speckled sussex in color, but with beards and sideburns. He sells hatching eggs $20 per dozen if you drive there.

Erhart Weihs (pronounced "wise") is pretty close to Flaming Geyser State park. If you travel this way, be sure to give us a holler- we're 15-20 minutes from his place and would meet up!

We lived in Tumwater for 3 years - up above the falls. I really, really miss the Olympia Co-Op! The place up here they call a "co-op"- PCC Natural markets, is a joke of a "co-op", IMHO. I've been wishing we could stock up on a few of our favorite bargains there- bulk ACV & Raw agave, and some dried soup blends that make rushed dinners and camping trips much easier. When we drive to Oregon, we always stop and stock up on our way back.
Thanks Rainmom, Looks like when I get some spare time here soon a road trip is in order. If I head out I'll let you know and make a CoOp run for ya. We are out near Steambout Island my girls and I hit the falls trail a couple times a year.

Quote: Well I had 3 but 2 died over winter. Then today I got called and went to remove a colony from a school building. What I removed made 6 frames of comb and a good amount of bees. Judging by the way they are acting now at home I feel good that I got the queen.
