Washingtonians Come Together! Washington Peeps

I wish the name-calling on this thread would stop. It makes me not want to come here.
Please do not be offended by what I am about to say. But IMO don't take your self, your kindness, or your valued time away from the school just because someone can't think before they speak. Words are just words, you are the bigger person for what you were doing. Also I do understand though as well, putting your self there for help and feeling the way they made you feel when you are there to help.
I do not think that Totalcolour made that comment in a mean way. And does not seem that Jess took it as a bad thing either.
Just my two cents.

No offense taken. I haven't stopped volunteering with children, I just choose to do it other places than the school now. When I dread walking into a school and desperately want to avoid running into someone in the hall because I may not be in the mood for snarky comments, I know that is not the place I should be.

I've always wanted a climbing hydrangea. I had 3 vines that attract hummingbirds and bees at my place in Auburn-- white star jasmine, honeysuckle, and trumpet vine. Trumpet gets REALLY big - like wisteria, but I love the flowers, and i had good luck with getting it to climb a tall pole with a "T" on it . Since we just moved late last summer, I am starting over with my climbing flowers.
here's a pic of my trumpet vine. I should run over to my old house and ask the owners if I can get a start...
I'm very excited to know about all things bees! I am never sure where or what is the best to get, I'm kind of addicted to honey. Where on earth would I be able to find honeysuckle? I have been searching for it for some time. To the beautiful coop w/ the guard dog, great job! Looks amazing! Itsren the sense of completion is wonderful & saved me from my frustration. Now how do you get them to lay in there? Do golf balls really help? Well off to church. Have a great evening all!

Oooh! And I candled the eggs in the bator that RainyDayChicken gave me, and they're ALL fertile! I'm so excited!

Thank you Richard!

I'm a little worried because one of them has a hairline fracture in it, but I can see it's eye and the little veins!!! What do I do!? Can I seal the crack somehow so it won't spread? It's got eyes...

That is awesome

Ok I don't know if you can see the chicken wire in the semi dark with my iPhone camera, but it's up and ready now for the chicks and mama to have about 1/4 of the run. I hope they don't try to jump over it, it's 4' high.

I think perhaps you are being a bit sensitive - maybe those people at the school where you volunteered were really nasty, but people on here aren't. This is not about being mean to anyone, just about sharing and learning.

Jess took it exactly the way I meant it - tongue-in-cheek (I hope

)

The person at the school wasn't nasty. He uses sarcasm frequently. He has worked at the school for years. I can't say for certain, and I can only guess that he probably knows how much teachers dislike "helicopter" moms. He never knew "why" I was at the school - he did not ever see me in the copy room making copies, or helping kids make fingerprint paintings, or sharpening hundreds of germ-infested, bite-marked pencils. He just saw me frequently, and made one too many sarcastic comment, on the wrong day, and I decided I'd had enough.

And, yes, I am sensitive.

I am sensitive to the simple fact that we teach children that name calling of any kind is considered bullying.

I am sensitive to the fact that we teach children that sarcastic humor can be hurtful to the recipient.

I am sensitive to the fact that 4-H children and teens frequent the BYC website.

I am sensitive to the fact that cyber-bullying is becoming a huge problem.

I am sensitive to the fact that someone who witnesses bullying and refuses to speak up is, in a way, taking part in it.

I am sensitive to the fact that a smiley that is winking can have many contexts.

I am sensitive to the fact that tone of voice can not be read in the written word.

And I am sensitive enough to speak up when I'm concerned a friend of mine is being bullied, whether she takes offense to it or not.

And, with that, I'll mention that we had a very good day. 7 is the perfect number for us. Cleaning chores felt "easy" again. The 3-lb. feeder that I'm borrowing from Jessica and using with the littles was more than half full this morning, instead of being completely empty. Those boys ate a lot! Latte had a great day wandering around the yard, even venturing near the big girls, instead of sitting where Blackie made her hide out. Caunnie went over and pecked at Latte and Latte FINALLY pecked back! Yay Latte! At night, the garage was quieter (LOL). And, I think the 3 littles think they moved from a tiny chicken tractor to the Taj Mahal during the day.

This is what I just worked on...supemental lighting for the chicken run too, since that's where the food and water are

Looks great! I have rope lighting that I keep intending to hang, then I misplaced the clips for them. I never thought to just drape it through the rafters like that. Great idea!
