Washingtonians Come Together! Washington Peeps

My DH got extra egg-cited this morning while I was till sleeping and got the inCOOLbator started up, put 14 eggs in it. We were supposed to wait until we got one more americuan blue egg before we started them, but he was too excited. The temp dropped to 93 and it took a few hours to get back up- but looks perfect now:

99.5 is the probe temp, and 10.4 is the ambient air temp. Humidity is a little low, so we added a few more drops water and will keep an eye on it. I'm headed out to look for another blue egg in the hen house, hoping there is one.

Question- could an egg be in the frig for 3 days and still be hatch-able in the incubator?

I have been getting any where from 10-13 eggs a day for the last few weeks. Today I got 18! So happy!

ETS: I ment 19 eggs today, not 18.

Itsren successfully hatched refrigerated eggs. She currently has a bunch of my eggs for her DS hatch project, and I put 2 eggs that were in the fridge for about 48hrs at 36 degrees. So curious to see if those are developing. Hopefully she will post about them.

Nice, yesterday I got 2 of 5 layers. Today at 12:30 I had 4, haven't gone out to collect yet. My EE's are getting close, both squat for me and I saw Pig Pen getting with Elphaba yesterday, that was a first.

I've been getting 4 eggs a day more often than not lately! (from 4 laying hens: white leghorn, red sex link, black sex link, buff orpington). The Rhode island red is molting but was a great layer before that, so I could get 5 some day soon! Black Jersey Giant and BCM are "sort of" squatting for me. They consider it at least and let me cuddle them. I'm sure they'll be laying soon. The white araucana shows no signs of laying.

I can't see this and let this go. Being called a "helicopter" mom is a derogatory statement. I quit volunteering at my kids' school after a staff member called me that. I decided that it wasn't worth my giving my time and effort (for free) to help the teachers if I was going to be called names for doing so. After that, they started sending notes home stating they needed volunteers. Yet, I have no desire to go back into the classroom. They lost a very active volunteer over name-calling.

I wish the name-calling on this thread would stop. It makes me not want to come here.
Itsren, I used a "smiley" after that statement to let Jess know that I wasn't being nasty - sort of jokingly said. That's what smileys are for, to let people know that those statements aren't serious. It wasn't meant to be derogatory, but it WAS meant to let her know she was perhaps being overly cautious.

I think perhaps you are being a bit sensitive - maybe those people at the school where you volunteered were really nasty, but people on here aren't. This is not about being mean to anyone, just about sharing and learning.

Jess took it exactly the way I meant it - tongue-in-cheek (I hope

Chicken math?

Today I got 1/2 of the roof on my chicken run. A shed type roof just like the coop. As I stood back and admired my work (LOL) I noticed that the run COULD be easily, VERY easily divided into, tada.......4 COOPS. Each 4 x 8. Oh yeah, I see lots of possibilities. #1 son ain't thrilled.

I told myself, "Self, no more babies this year, no more, you don't need them" but self answered, "I need a blue Barnevelder Roo so I must cross my regular Barny guy with my splash hen, and one egg won't be enough, so maybe just a few of the really nice speckled Barnevelder eggs, and perhaps a few Ameraucanas . . . ?!?!?!? OOOOPS!
