I need BYC help with these poultry nipples. I know there has been many conversations about them in the past, so I hope I am not being too repetitive, but what-in-the-heck-one am I supposed to buy???!!! Haha, I keep looking them up and I have two glass bottles (I can drill if I need to) that I really want to use. Do I just order 5 of them and cut a hole in a cap n' stick it in there? I need schematics!
Quote: I have the push in ones also in my bucket waterers. There is a website that sells nipple waterers and kits to make them yourself. They suggest the push in ones too. I also made single nipple waterersout of smaller water bottles. Not the "bottled water" bottles, but the reusable ones. I got them at Target or Fred Meyer for cheap. They work great in cages and brooders! My suggestion on getting nipples, is if you are ordering online from like QC Supply and getting other stuff order some nipples too. They are like .99 cents and if you are already paying shipping......![]()
We have the YELLOW nipples for our PVC pipe waterers... they have a yellow plastic band that wraps up and half way around the pipe. I did a bunch of research - they were the best ones to use on PVC pipes. They do not leak. They can not wiggle and make the hole larger. I bought them on Amazon. They are distinctly different than the threaded and push-in nipples.
We also use the push-in style that Reber Ranch carries. They also do not leak. From what I read in reviews, the threaded will either leak over time, or, if you drill the hole at a slight angle, will leak right away.
ETA: And yes, the ones Reber carries have a rubber gasket. And no - not necessarily meant for PVC pipes. The only ones that have to be used on PVC pipe are the yellow ones because of the plastic band that wraps around the pipe.
Dang dang dang! Our original flight out of NYC this morning was delayed for so long they had to reroute us. Been sitting here WAY to long! Now our second flight is .......... DELAYED! DANG DANG DANG! I really hope the next leg goes more smoothly.
In the meantime. . . Hi everyone.

We just moved back to WA after 4 years in Des Moines, I miss the mentality. Everywhere I go here, it's extra precautions for everything. Back there, people still just trust people and nobody takes advantage of others.
Itsren, thank you for hatching the babies!!! It is sad about the 3rd chick, but such is life and your son will get a valuable learning experience.
I am not worried about the glass breaking, I've worked with glass on many occasions. I did a few stained glass pieces, but it is an expensive/time consuming hobby, I have also drilled holes in a few glasses and some porcelain pots to make planters out of them. It really isn't that hard, you just have to use a lot of water.
DH will be expecting you tomorrow!![]()
Update on final egg... no pips yet. This afternoon we will have to do the sad part of the science experiment. Crack it open, document it, and probably have a funeral.![]()
