im on my never ending hunt for Marans! Went to dels and they told me i had to order 25. So im now pondering if i want to order 25 and hope i can sell them off, or just keep watching craigslist. ALSO bought two chicks yesterday! Black australorp and a buff orpington.

Jess' marans is a pretty one! I think it's the one that lays the dark brown egg in her pic!

So it's taken me close to 25 years but I'm pretty certain I'm going to hang onto my DH now.  Funny, I thought once he retired he'd drive me nuts, but it's been quite the opposite. 

Whew!  I guess we're ready for the summer tour!  e

The first part brought back very happy memories for me.
The last part reminded me how I lost so many arguments when Birdie May wanted something.

Got the roof done on the pallet coop. Off to meet up with Jeanine(Cloverleaf) and drop something off to her. Eat(haven't done that yet today). Hit Wilco for feed and supplies. Come home and work on the inside of the coop. Plan is to have it done(not painted until warm dry weather) tomorrow and move all LF into tomorrow night.

I found a decent quantity of dried yolk on Muffet's comb today. I collect eggs at least once a day and found a nice batch of five after I noticed her face. Should I worry about her turning into an egg-eater? Occasionally (once every few days), I'll find a lone bantam egg on the floor, intact. I don't know the circumstances, so I don't have a complete picture of what happened. Thoughts?

You'd think I'd know the answer to this question after having chickens for nearly ten years, but I don't.

I was just reading a post about this the other day. Most said not to worry about it, and the ones that had a suggestion mentioned a roll-away nest box, where the eggs roll out of the hen's reach?
