Washingtonians Come Together! Washington Peeps

does anyone know what she dyed her silkie with? Thats absolutely adorable. You better stop posting silkie pics now or my chicken math is going to be multiplication. Stop, stop, stop!

They used to have a blue chicken at the Ravensdale Tavern- it was their mascot.

Are there any of my homies out here in my neck of the woods who actually ever visited the Ravensdale tavern before it went away? .....ZGoatLady- did you ever go to the Ravensdale Tavern ?

No I'm not a drinker, give me the bottle top and if I sniff it that would do me in.

When we were looking for a bigger dog a few years ago, I tried contacting a rescue, can't remember which one it is now. They told me they wouldn't give me a dog because my chickens aren't neutered. Morons.

Neutered chickens???

Has anyone tried with success to brood 6 w/o bantam chicks with 2.5 w/o LF chicks?

I had two bantams with a marans last year, all the same age with a broody mama. They did fine.

Gonna post a pic from my phone soon of the new fence...and we got 9 eggs from 11 layers today!

Today the girls weren't thrilled with the new fence and stood there staring at us in the back door. We pretended to do voice-overs.
DH: Where will we crap now that we don't have access to the back patio?!

He's MUCH happier that we have our yard reclaimed from the monster mess makers and the kids will have plenty of poop free yard to spend their summer.

yay for nine eggs! We got eight today out of ten layers, all the hens are finally laying! (Except our broody mama, of course!)

Like I said, please PM me what you're bringing. We'll plan to ALL meet at NOON, whether you got there before or plan to stay after, we're eating at NOON. That way it's a central location and time but y'all can do as you please the rest of the day. After I get a few PMs I'll compile a list of food and plan what I'm bringing, and let y'all fill in the gaps.

It's nice of you to take this on, in the past what they have done is made a new thread called something like wash show food your going to bring that way everyone knows what's going to be there. Also on it is who's going to bring tables. Oh don't forget chairs to sit on. Would you like me to help with this. Oh I don't think you should set the time on it yet because people need to see when they will show. I'd just wait till we got closer to the day.

I will organize food for the potluck! I need a PM from each person coming who wants to bring something, and let me know what you will bring. I will fill in the gaps myself or request those who don't know what to bring that they bring something specific to fill in gaps.
What has been done in the past was a new thread started in the "meet ups" with a sign up.

My 4-month-old bantam EE has taken to sleeping in the nesting box, what do I do?
Make soup? Kidding... But I may have the same problem. Our 5 have been laying for a few weeks now. 4 eggs per day, every day for the last week. Then yesterday nothing. I looked a couple of hours later and one of the RIRs was sitting in the nest box. She growled at me when I checked under her, but there were no eggs. So I wonder if she's chasing off the other hens. Maybe they're laying in the holly bush, or somewhere the dogs can get the eggs.

BTW I love the names you gave your chickens. How about Grace Hopper? I'm a software engineer so might do a programming language name theme for future dogs. Fortran, Cobol, Java. I try not to name the chickens except for a favorite.

I love that idea! Though I've decided our next acquisition will be a Wheaten Ameraucana, which I will name "Wil Wheaten", and then make Wil Wheaton autograph pictures of the chicken at Comic Cons. XD

Greg, I know this is an informative demonstration, and I am sure it will be great knowlege, .......but the description just seems so gruesome for a "Puyallup Fair" event, ya know?

... including handling, bleeding, scalding, plucking and eviscerating. Honor the bird and hone your stewardship skills in this live, hands-on demonstration

bleck- I hope they don't ask the audience to help!

:)

Hi all! ..... I've mostly been lurking, haven't had any time to post.... But I got a few min of down time :) for once, and wanted to share pics of my soon-to-be new and impregnable chicken run ;-) it will also be more than 2x he size(so I can get more chickens soon:-D)

Right now everyone(5 hens) is in a 8x12 and in a week or two they will move to a 15x20..... Which I will divide when my pullets arrive, until they are big enough to be loose with the big girls....

Once I get the new pen done and move the coop in, I have to start on the coop addition so everyone fits inside comfortably :)

I'm really happy as this pen will have chicken wire buried in large rocks as a perimeter, the carport cover for additional shelter, and 2in chicken wire covering the rest so it wil be a secure and permanent enclosure .... (Permanent anything is rare in our yard)

The new space (15x20) with perimeter ditch and 3 sides of chicken wire
400

The current space

...... Sweetlilbaby.... So sorry about demon, glad he is at peace.... Some people are just plain crazy.... Working dogs are bred to WORK....a gsd sounds like a great option for a new partner/friend.... Especially if you can get a young pup w/o any real issues. ((Hugs))
