TO ya both.

I have a bit of an idea how that feels. See I publicly disowned my mothers daughter in December. I decided it was time to remove the stresses and stop trying to be part of a group that didn't want me. With AWESOME people like my BYC FAMILY I don't need those other people.
Thanks CR. I think that may just be the answer to my issues. Anyone need a roommate or know of an awesome rental where I can take my mini farm?

I'm so sorry that happened to you. That happened to me with my grandpa, and it should have been the last straw, except I'm too forgiving.

Gosh darnit. I'd rather squat with spurs on!!!

Going through the same kind of cr*p with my family. Can't wait to get back to the woods. Anyone want to start a BYC commune?

What proper little ladies T Hi!

Ahhhh!!! I just got done candling my eggs on day 8 and only 5 were bad out of 80! So happy!!

Wow! That's great!

My scalp and hair have been particularly dry this season. I'm about to coconut oil up my scalp and hair and wrap my head in saran wrap for the night. Wish me luck not suffocating myself with the saran wrap while I sleep!

See y'all in the morning, I'll likely be there between 10-10:30am. CR will be my first stop, gotta get me some no-mess chicks in the good primary colors

I hate pastels.

I just had to do that last weekend

and my hair is very rarely dry! I heat it up on the stove for a bit and add in olive oil and honey. Works great!

Hello Washingtonians!!!! I live here in Walla Walla kinda new to this thought i'd try and meet some people here to help out along the way. the grandson and I have built a new coop. I will be posting picks after we get it painted. Very excited to be able to talk with people doing the same thing as I.
One thing I am haveing some problems with is finding some straw, dont know to many people , just wondering if any of you out there might be able to help me in finding some...thanks again for adding me to your group.

That's adorable! What a great dad! Cute baby chicks!! I love the lemon cuckoo orps!!!

RainMom, before my daughter was born a little over a year ago, I had four boys, five if you include my DFH, six if you include our mutt!! That was a 6/1 ratio, glad she came along to help even things out :0)

OK for those wondering about putting chicks under a hen. The 2 little Silkies I got from Kim (what was I thinking) are not ready to be totally off the light yet. I put a light in but it is high so it barely gets warm on the floor. But not to worry see I put Silkiebator in with them. I just did a final check and she has them pushed back in a corner and is trying to cover them.

Not saying this will work for others but it just shows it can work.

And just because the Sweet-n-Sour Roadkill seems so popular. Against my (lack of) better judgement. I am going to let the secret out. Now I suppose I will have to figure out something new for future gatherings!

OK so I use meatballs, smoked sausage chunks (like Kielbasa), little smokies and the TOP SECRET ITEM is .......... no no no I can't do it I can't tell.
OK OK OK ya talked me into it.

You are awesome CR!!!!! Thanks for sharing, this sounds so GOOD!!

I'm glad everyone had a really great time at the show. I really wish I would have gone, but hindsight is 20/20 right?

Does anyone else ever have the feeling that they're better off without the family they were born to? Some people make THE stupidest decisions/choices and they don't care that it affects everyone else.

I'm going to the April show in Vancouver if it's the last thing I do, I'll even turn my phone off and go AWOL for 3 days before if that'll guarantee my attendance.

Ok... off my soapbox... for now.

Have a great day!

Oi-ve! Yes, I do know how you feel.

Slinglings - I have to say moving to Iowa was one of the best things we ever did. It was bittersweet moving home, and I have to remind myself daily, that my family needs us here. However, we do not need the snide or rude comments a lot of my family is capable of making, and also never much cared for all of the free-unsolicited advice.

LOL! LaughingFeather, just read your last comment...I would love to be part of the BYC Commune!!!

Corned beef and cabbage dinner turned out great. No leftovers though.
I even made Irish Soda bread (a recipe from Ireland) and it even turned out quite well). This was a first, but really it's a base bisquit dough with no shortening. Very tasty served warm with lots of butter.

Nite all, I'm a tired puppy.

Hello Mikeyb it is I the CA stalker would you share your Soda bread recipe. We also had a great corned beef and cabbage dinner and my DH actually ate it this year and liked it, getting better taste buds with age. It was just my FNL and the two of us so we have some left over for dinner tonight. I could spruce it up with some soda bread though.

three things....

1. I am looking for 6 to 8 dozzen hatching eggs that are low priced, larger breed egg layers type. if you have a lead on this let me know.

2. I talked to a couple people at the show yesterday and there does seem to be some interest in doing a couple of processing classes. I am propossing two events at my place. one would be for culls and roos and the second would be for meat birds. I have a great processing set up and a lot of expierence. It would be open to people with or without expierence, and low pressure. If it is just too hard for some they don't have to do or even watch.

The cull and roo day could be any time. A meat bird day I would order in chicks for everyone who wanted to participate (I have a wholesale account with welp) so we could start a thread on how raising them is going and they should all be ready to butcher at the same time.

3. for anyone that I missed yesterday or just could not make it I am changing it from a show special to just a byc first time purchase special. first bucket half price for any byc poster. yall are great and worth it.

Hi Paul,
It was really nice meeting you at the show. I learned a lot when you, Dave (VelvetFog), and I were hanging out at your truck, looking at the feed and talking about all the various pros/cons and methods of dealing with different feeds and feeders. There is always so much more to learn and talking to more experienced people like you and Dave is the best way to do it.

I'd like to suggest that you let people know where you are located each time you write about buying your feed or getting together for a class. There is SO much activity on this thead that it's nearly impossible to keep track of all the details. It may seem redundant but for the first several times I think it would really help.

I'd offer you hatching eggs if I had any, but my girls are celibate and barely give us enough to eat! I know there are others here that have a lot more, hopefully they will be able to help. Did you say that this round of hatching was primarily to become more experienced with your incubator? I think quite a few people have been going thru that process. That and school projects for their kids.

I can't commit to the processing class, but I am interested in taking part. My upbringing should have prepared me for it but I've never actually done it and I don't really know what my emotional response is going to be. I need to try it and find out!

I could take or leave the horses. I don't want standard 'row crops' - much more into permaculture.

Hi Dave,

Great getting to talk to you at the show, too bad there wasn't more time and a warmer spot to sit and gab. You remind me a LOT of my brother -- he's a good guy too, most of the time!
lol.png

You mentioned permaculture. I'm interested in that, too, on a scale small enough for my place. I've only gotten a minor introduction to it so far but want to learn more. Have you actually implemented it or just moving in that direction? Can you recommend any reading, videos, etc.? We got a load of horse manure on Friday, I think that's moving in the right direction!
