Washingtonians Come Together! Washington Peeps

I think I found my farm future... Please pray/think/meditate/send me happy thoughts about this. Leaving a career to be a farmer, sounds a little crazy, but let me rephrase: leaving a career I dread/can't stand that's making me despise computers, people and society, to be a farmer... yep that sounds MUCH better.

Happy thoughts happy thoughts happy thoughts!!! 125 acres of happy thoughts... OMGosh!!!

Lucky duck! I'm so jealous! Being a military family, we're still a good decade from getting to settle and put down (literal)roots. Mr. Bear asked me the other night how I'd feel about him staying in an extra ten years on top of that, and I said "No way!"

The nice thing about chickens is that they don't start ignoring their caretakers for mysterious reasons. Obviously, they are not nearly the same thing as human offspring, but they're a nice way to offset stress and sadness. If something upsets me to the point that I start to cry, I go to my chickens. They seem to understand that a crying human needs comforting because they become more receptive to hugs and pets if they're normally not-so-cuddly.

Side-note: they often do act like children, so they can be slightly like human children. They can be green-eyed monsters. My Pudge loves to sit on my lap and get hugs and pets. If someone else comes up to me and pecks at my pants/shoes or gets on my lap too, she makes evil noises at them and chases them off or even leaves my lap to chase them away. Then she comes back and plops down on me again. I enjoy my tiny feathered children.

I have two kids and I agree with everything you said. My chickens are actually happy to see me and like hanging out with me. The rest of the family, not so much. The chickens fill a need ;) When I get cranky inside at the kids or DH, I go outside.

Hi everyone :) I am surprised that so many of you have yellers (or yodelers? LOL) like my Heidi!

The feed I got at the show is fantastic! The girls do eat it and leave the other feed. Thank you so much to pbjls - Honeysuckle Hills and I will be back for more.

I forgot to ask though - is this flock raiser or layer? (I'm using it as layer currently - but the girls love it so much I'd love to give it to the chicks too if it's OK!)

Speaking of chicks...here are a couple photos from last week I haven't shared yet.

Me too -- not much more relaxing than sitting in a chair tossing scratch to my birds.
