They were delicious! I had a friend over for afternoon tea and bad movies. We also had ginger thins, rosemary focaccia with tomato-basil cheese, and strawberries. :)

And it just so happens that I landed a volunteer/apprentice position up in Lake Stevens, so I will be there on the weekends, and possibly more days come May.

Paul, let me know what you are looking for, what you would like to grow, how much, etc. etc.

Hehe... I wonder what is ever going to get done in my garden this year?? Lol... Maybe I'll just plant it in my car, so I don't have to leave it... Picture it now: a VW jetta with a garden & chicken coop built in driving down the road.

I could help make more growing space in yer Jetta. I will take the motor. That is what I want to put into the sand rail.

OK so something just dawned on me and I thought I would share.

Last yer at Monroe Kim was talking about how cute Silkies are and she might like to get some. Well I directed her to a couple good breeders. Now IF my memory serves me correctly By the time Kim was ready to leave she had bought Silkies.

Now this year Kim was SHOWING her silkies and guess what REVENGE !?!?!? I ended up coming home with 4 Silkies from Kim.

oops....  I meant to say "shorten to 1 week" instead of 3-4 weeks.
Here's a question for the more experienced "farmers":   If you're bringing in young birds, say 2 months old, would it be acceptable to shorten their quarantine to 1 week?  I'm thinking they would be far less likely to have anything catching.  What would you say????

Good question... :) I was hoping not to have to isolate them desperately for too long.... Def 2 wks at least.... And 4 if really necessary, then so be it... ;-)......

Another question to add to the time one.... Can I make quarantine pens 'inside' my large pen... They would be the most secure if I just fenced off an area, and the everyone could get good looks at each other that way.... Or do they need to be in a completely difference space(doable as well, just more of a PITA .....

They should not be able to breathe the same air at all. At least 50' apart if possible, or keep the newbies in the garage or other side of the house.

I was doing my volunteer shift at Pasado's today when I saw a rooster with a few hens in one of the barns. I'd seen him listed on Petfinder a few months ago. He has a neurological condition that affects his balance. His head kinda bobs around. Looks like a BR. I got so depressed that I broke down crying. He'd lost all of his tail feathers. He even lost all of the feathers on one wing (not sure about the other). It looks like it belongs in a pack of chicken wings you'd find at a grocery store. I think I'm going to have to adopt him. I just feel so sorry for him. I want to give him a home where there are no other roosters. Maybe the girls wouldn't feel inclined to beat him up. They named him Rodney, and I'm wondering if they did that because he gets no respect.

Mom says that it's time for a second coop. We're considering our options. In the meanwhile, I'm going to talk to the farm caretaker, ask questions about Rodney and make sure that I'm not getting into something I can't handle. I just want to help the poor guy and give him a good home where someone will love him for who he is.
