Washingtonians Come Together! Washington Peeps

Farmin Momma~

Thank you very much. Yeah, all the kids were having fun in the snow this morning. My DD just happened to be wanting me to take her pic.

I am just a clock collector, but these clocks came with the property and was the biggest reason I wanted this place. If you Google (or Bing) the name "Jimmy Collier" you can read about the man that used to own this house. He was amazing, and is the reason that there is a race track at the Monroe Fair Grounds. At the track, they use to call him "The Candy Man" in a good way. When we move we will only be taking one of them with us, the two faced black one. I have to leave the four faced one, the sale of our house depends on it sadly. But there was also a grandfather clock that came with the property and that will be coming with me as well.
Yes we are moving, to Monroe a house on 9 acres and not right in the city. Very quiet there.

Where in Monroe ?
The road it is on is called Cedar Ponds rd off of Ben Howard rd. It is a triple wide manufactured home. But it is perfect. I will post pictures for ya'll next week.

We lived on Old Owen when my kids were born.............and my son just moved back up there in a condo that was never there before.
Beautiful valley, I was just wondering if that was the area.

Oh, yes, I love all the hidden gems in this state! I love the coast, too. It is so hard to decide where to lay down some roots around here when everything is so wonderful :0)

I missed where your Einstein has been?

A few days ago this thing was FULL of buds waiting to blossom into beautiful flowers, now look at it... It's pathetic looking. Where do I cut it? A spray bottle... really? High maintenance plants...

It's no wonder lavender is my favorite plant, they're sturdy as a rock, attract good bugs & bees, and smell devine. This whole orchid thing is depressing. ChickAudie, I may just bring it to you... If I kill it, I will be devastated!

Get that moss outta there!
I wouldn't do any cutting yet, you still have blooms. Put her in a window where it'll get some good light. Most people say no direct sunlight - but c'mon, this is WASHINGTON!
Ah, just go to the dollar store and get a little spray bottle, keep it full next to your orchid and spritz it when you are walking by 1-2x a day

To lower the maintenance, use something like a glass pie plate, i.e. wide and shallow, fill it with stones or marbles then add water. Don't cover the stones with water, just 3/4 of the way. Sit the orchid on top. The marbles/stones hold the orchid pot above the water because they hate sitting in water. This provides moisture 24/7 via evaporation.

They like light, but not direct sun, it will burn their leaves. They live in areas with a lot of sun, but under the protection of larger leafy plants. An east facing window is great.

When they are blooming they don't need much food. They aren't heavy feeders any time. You can use regular houseplant fertilizer if you have some, just make it half strength.

DON'T OVERWATER, that's the main cause of problems for most people with orchids. They need to dry out between watering. Take the moss out of the pot, like CA said. Many of the orchids sold in stores are planted in a clear pot that has several slits down the sides and on the bottom, and that pot is sitting in a more decorative, or heavier pot. Lift the plant and see if that's the case with this one. If so, you're lucky because you can see the roots. When the roots are green it has enough water. When they turn white, it's time to water again. I just set them in a bowl of water for about 15 minutes. It's best to water from below because if you pour it from above and get water into the crown (where the leaves attach to the plant) it's bad. If you spill it into there use a paper towel to suck it out. It's just easier to set it in a bowl of water. Let it drain before setting it back into the "outer" pot.

If it's not in a clear pot, water it approximately every 10 days as I described above. When in doubt, wait another day or two.

Hope this helps!

Chicks are fun. Just be warned that they do a really good "dead' imitation, and when they dustbath they look like they are having a seizure. Don't panic.

That's for sure! I kinda shook me up. Not only that but they act narcoleptic! They'll be standing there, preening, then suddenly wilt to the floor as if they just passed out! And they really WILL fall asleep with their face in the waterer! Thank goodness I noticed where someone had posted a picture of using marbles in the waterer to prevent drowning!

ChickieLady!!! Your Splash's are GORGEOUS!!!! :love :drool

Oh, lFarmin Momma's story about when she had to kick those trespassers off some land at gun-point awhile back ended up in the paper yesterday.  Some people don't like it when other people don't think exactly how they do, I guess....?

Does anyone here REALLY think that protecting property is more important than protecting children? Seriously? Please, please, tell me that's not true. I think too well of you all to believe it.

I agree with you, I just didn't want to get involved. It's not like it will change anything. People generally don't change.

HI, I am on the Border with WA in Astoria, OR ...just stopping by to say Hello...

WELCOME!!!  Put your seat belt on... this thread is QUICK!

OW! Picturing the birth of my 3rd child with that egg on the right. Not purdy.

Yeah she was making a lot of noise for almost an hour.

So was I (38 hours, natural home birth)  :lau

HOLY CROW AND A HALF!!!!  I'm not even going to mention mine, because y'all would find me and stone me for how short it was.  And you had more than one!?!  Good Lord Almighty woman!!!

#1: 36+ hours, naturally in the hospital
#2: 14 hours, naturally at home
#3: (You can imagine why I would have stayed home again after the amazingly short and wonderful birth of #2...oops) 38+ hours naturally at home

You're going to punch me-- #1, induced for preE no pain meds, 9 hours start to finish. #2, I went to the doctor because I "felt wierd" and was told I was 5 cm and they sent me to the hospital. 2 hours of non stop screaming and I had a baby. I much preferred the 9 hour birth to the two hour one!
