Washingtonians Come Together! Washington Peeps

Got my incubator today. The HovaBator 1588. I've got a bunch of eggs coming from CA. Hope they make the trip well. Then we sit for a day, right? Then into the bator. Any first time warnings? You know, the OH MY GOODNESS, DON'T DO THIS.

They'll be fine if you leave it as Big Chunks or cut it up tiny. Think about how they tag along with their mamma and peck at anything they can. Mine are 4 weeks and really love tiny pieces of cantalope, they go absolutely bonkers for it!
That was kind of my thinking. My GF that's brooding my other girls is hesitant to give too much to them. I was thinking that a hen raised chick is exposed to everything mom is and learns from her what is good to eat. So, I figured I should expose them to food that are good for them now so they will be "excited" to eat it when they get it once in the pen.

Thanks for confirming my own thoughts.

OK, along this line of thinking......

Are there any foods/greens/fruits that I SHOULDN'T feed my chicks and hens? (Other than meats, of course)

Well, I've got the pre-made 4X8X6 kennel, and the plastic 3/4" square mesh, and the 1/2 inch mesh welded wire, and nobody makes hand ringsets anymore (and who knows where Dad's is) and they don't cut greenhouse panels at Home Depot these days (ARGH) so I am in the position to finish two new pens, just not quickly.

What are hand ringsets?

It's a device used to make rings to hold stuff together- the one Dad had was for rebar, and used a spool of 14 gauge soft steel wire, but he also borrowed one like a stapler that had precut rings and clamped them around heavier wire.

I got the same incubator a few weeks ago I am currently on day 12. SO far I have found it incredibly easy... Basically set it and check it twice a day to make sure everythings running right... Good luck
