Washingtonians Come Together! Washington Peeps

well, our coop is finally just a day away from real completion (Hooray!) Anyone know about chicken behavior?
I have one New Hampshire red who is trying to be the alpha
and does not let my Faverolles have a minute's peace - not really extreme chasing or pecking but keeping away from food etc.
Would it help to move the shy Favs into the coop a few hours before this aggressive chicken ? Would that tell the aggressor that the Favs were there first and have at least equal standing? Or does any of this matter? thanks for any help.

My best suggestion would be to NOT allow the New Hampshire in that coop for a few days. Then add it and see if that helps. FYI there are certain breeds that just tend to get bullied more than others. Sadly Favs are one of those. Unless the Favs were raised with the others they will probably be bullied.

No blood no fowl.

I've heard that Fav's are a very passive breed, and single Fav's can have trouble in a mixed flock. We do have a Fav expert here - the name eludes me atm, she's the very nice lady in OR - gave CR Fudge -drat -- sorry!

If you really want to change up the pecking order - take the agressive bird to solitary confinement for a few days - and then re-introduce her to the flock. That will force a shuffle of the pecking order - although it may not change.

If you have only one "mean" bird - then -- cull it.

Thanks Dave. And anyone else who replied. I hope she does get more of the white mottling, it's just so pretty! The other little gal has more white on the front of her (mostly her chest is white)...I'll get more pics today. They're cute little things and very friendly (this one hops up on me even though she was raised outside by Lucy!).
