I did sew down the triangles.  It was a little challenging to get the bag in position so I could lower the needle-thingie.  I found that if I carefully folded down the bag I could get it "short" enough to stand up right in the proper position.  I will say that this was the most difficult part of the bag.

Actually the needle to the head was no where near as bad as the ones to the digits.
