I find that comment to be rather offensive.

Weak armed / 18 mo old -- those sound like excuses to me :)

Treated wood only needs to be used where wood touches dirt.

Chickens are not tall - so you could get by with 2' from floor to ceiling - but -- listen close -- You will want a coop you can either -- Stand up in, OR - reach every nook and cranny from the "human access portal".

I have three primary coops - and the one I like the least is the one that is the most difficult for me to clean. It's too short to stand in, and i cant reach all corners, even with a rake, from the portal.

Heighth of the roost depends a bit on breed of birds - but here's the basic rule.

Roost needs to be higher than the nesting boxes. ( put mine about 2' off the floor)

If you have a Mormon church (Latter Day Saints) nearby, they generally have young men doing their "missionary" service who go around the neighborhoods offering their help. My mom had them help with chores after my father passed. I wouldn't be surprised if they would volunteer to help you.

Has anyone here ever had any experience with them?

Well, I AM a Mormon (a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints), so maybe I can help. We do have young men, young women, and retired couples who go out to serve full time missions, and part of their commitment is to provide service to people and organizations that need help. Bear in mind they have many other commitments, too, so they probably couldn't build your whole coop, but they might be able to offer a helping hand. It's worth asking. A mom with a husband in the military definitely needs a helping hand. Do please note that our young men missionaries cannot be in a house with just women, nor can our young lady missionaries be in a home with just men. It's a precautionary thing, you understand.

Wow. I just found out our close friend Nate was one of the injured in today's avalanches. He's in the hospital for a dislocated shoulder but nothing else! God is good for keeping him so unscathed...he was swept 1200ft at over 50mph!! He has a wife and 3 small children and is the worship leader at our church.

Wow, Jess!! I'm glad to hear he's okay.

Well it wasn't meant to be offensive, many many people use that term throughout history, church goers or not, to describe a general disheveled look. Just a silly word is all.

Thanks. He is in love and hoping that the rain doesn't keep up today, so that he can ride him. I think this is going to be great for him, discipline-wise. I did look up recipes for the cakes, I think it will be fun. No birthdays coming up, so I will have to make one just for fun. Well, that is why we do the faux-hawk, they can have it up when they want to, but we can make them look presentable for church on Sunday. Our church is very laid back, we wear jeans and such, but I still like them to look nicer.

Wow!! Thank goodness he is ok! Praying for his speedy recovery. The shoulder is a painful injury.
For the record, I approve of Paul's brooder set-up. Gotta love easy-clean living quarters!
I am good with anything that is easy-clean. I forgot to treat the floor in my coop and decided on DLM, so when the weather gets nicer, I will be cleaning it out and trying to fix that. Ugh.

Yes I have some CCL coming from her VERY soon. Also my BLRB are Greenfire birds. They give those day old chicks away for a measly $199.00 each and that is SR.
They're spendy but they have great birds.
Wanna borrow a tazer??? Or HOT SHOT??? Doggie WILL learn respect.
Need to teach DD how to teach him respect. He'll just about step out of his paws when he hears her and I'm with her to get back to his porch. Tazer and Hot would do better on his owner. She has one of the sweetest dogs in the neighborhood tied to her garage whit a lead that's no more than 4' and the other loose or on a cable that spans her yard if she thinks Animal Services may be by again. She knows how to play the system!!
Well today we had to go to town and I decided to drive the pick up. On the drive the pick up relayed to me that is DOES NOT want to go to Vancouver or Canby the following week. Soooo it looks like we will be taking Whitey. The bigger truck. Scary thing is......... too much space to haul lots of stuff home.

Sorry bout the smaller truck. Go easy on the return trip load!!
Not caught up, did not have it in me tonight to read through everything. We got up at 5 and left the house at 6 to head to Ashford to pick up DS's little pony. We were trying to get him home and in the stall before DS woke up. We missed, but it was a fun attempt. They had snow down there and it was coming down steadily as we got the trailer loaded with the pony and his tack. We got back just before 9 and got him settled before he came down to the barn. Logan brushed him about 5 times today and can clean his front hooves all by himself. This is the best pony I have ever met.
Here is the hoof cleaning, his feet should be turned away from the horse, but I didn't correct him, as he was so excited that he could do it. We will work on that tomorrow.

Also, in looking over the youngest chicks today, I am 85% sure that one of my white leghorns is also a cockeral. I do NOT need two Leghorn roosters. So,
DH said that he would butcher it.

FWJ ~ the cakes that you made looked wonderful!! Your little guy is cute with his mohawk! I let my boys do the Faux-hawk, but my older son doesn't ever style his hair, so it just looks like a regular haircut. He is not allowed to have a mohawk at school, it is on the disruptive list in the dress code.

Very CUTE PONY I bet your DS in HAPPY HAPPY HAPPY!!!!
