Good evening Washingtonians!
Long time! It's been forever since I had a chance to come here. Last time I posted was at least six months ago I believe just as we were closing on our house.
How is everything!!? =D
I had no idea that having a house would be so much work. I had such high hopes for being able to get a coop up and running for the spring but the cold beat me to it and I wasn't able to finish prepping the yard. We had to cut down so many dead apple trees. I am just now starting to condense them all down into yard debris.
This might seem kinda odd but does anyone in the vicinity of Vancouver have experience building coops? I have been shopping around a lot and I really just am not comfortable dropping so much money on one of those boring factory made coops. Unfortunately my fiance and I haven't got the slightest clue where to even begin. I bought myself a whole book of coop plans a while back but all of the diagrams are so confusing to me.
I start a new job on April 30th at that new Total Wine & More that's gone up near the mall and I'm bound and determined to build myself a coop BEFORE I cave and get some cute little peepers. I'm not sure how much I trust any of the feed stores stock though, I'd really rather not get chickens from a company that's just in it for the money.
Also booked the chapel for our wedding in August.
It doesn't seem like any of our friends and family is willing or interested in checking up on chickens while we are gone on our honeymoon so it looks like they may even have to wait until after August, or next year.

I'm not sure if september is too late to get chicks.
Whew! Sorry for the long post! I missed being here and I'm still chomping at the bit to jump on the bandwagon!
