Washingtonians Come Together! Washington Peeps

Ok Washington peeps, I'm new to the chicken thing and need help. I need to know if this chick is a hen or roo. The receipt says Araucana, but I've read enough to think it's an Easter Egger. Seems to me that this is a roo but I want your opinion. "Bacon" is about 8 weeks old in these pics. Thanks.
Definitely EE cockerel. That comb is so red and with the red coming in on the wings.

We LOVE our friends in Washington State and we know y'all love to chat!   The original Washingtonians thread has over 80,000 replies which is AMAZING!

It's great to see peeps who love raising backyard chickens come together, but all that discussion in a 5 year old thread is bogging down the server when we do updates.   For this reason we're starting this new Washingtonians thread.

Rest assured that the entire original Washingtonians thread will remain closed from new replies, but completely intact.  You'll be able to reference, search, and read it any time!

Please continue all of your great discussions here.

Thanks to all our Washington friends for being (chatty) members of our wonderful community!!!!

Still trying to figure out how to post, reply, etc. I, m from Tri-Cities. Love my girls, now 5 weeks. Getting everything set up for them in the run. Now if only the weather would cooperate so they can start living out there. Would love to hear from other folks in Richland.

Freddie's had sweet corn (butter and cream, I think) for four ears for a dollar on Friday, so I bought five ears for the five Large Fowl pens. I forgot until I cleaned it that it was also sheep treats, since he got the husks: everyone is very happy. They've got Flock Raiser in their feeders right now, and have had compost hors d'oevres this week (sowbugs and redworms) so I'm not worried about their protein intake.

I also found Holy Mole peppers at the Oly Farmer's Market, at Scatter Creek. So that's off the to-do list. And I got to see the baby Peregrine Falcons in their nest on the Port of Olympia crane.

I am so very very over this rain, though.

I live in Chehalis and would adopt your baby if you havent found a home. But I dont drive very far from home. Im 62 and hate the freeway. Heres my chickie house. A converted greenhouse. Im building another run (bigger on the other side

Hi and welcome neighbor! I live in Kennewick (the notorious Finley, specifically). I get lost on this thread sometimes as it moves very fast. You may also check out the Eastern Washington thread!

Thanks very much for the warm response! At this point it's all about the eggs. Chilled easy going temperament that lay well. Color of the eggs is less important to me than getting nice size and good tasting eggs if they happen to be cool colors then that is icing on the cake for me. Maybe later I'll be looking for other attributes? My coop is 4.5' by 6' with 18' x 4.5' of run space. 4.5' x 24' total for the birds. My breed list at this point is: Red Sex-link Black Sex-link Gold Sex-link Silver laced Wyandotte Blue Andalusian Ancona Black Jersy Giant Egyption Fayoumi Gold Laced Wyandotte Not in any particular order, based on what could be available at one particular source. I'm easy on the breeds if I know thye are coming from a good source. Thanks!
Well Rainwolf has some really good egg layers and is a Great Peep!

Yes, she is. I was able to stop by and visit for a while with Rainwolf and her mom this afternoon. They were very nice to me and showed me around the chickens living areas and answered questions. I even got sent home with a dozen amazing eggs, and a branch from the bay leaf tree. Can you say AWESOME? Rainwolf, thanks again for your very generous hospitality!
More then welcome! might have to invite you to the next work party so you can meet all those here in the area :) Plus you do really good work! :D

Ooops.... at least it was not in a pocket :D those get nasty! Congrats on the new layers.
Got something done today at least. As I am getting much closer to being ready for some chickens to come stay with me I thought it would be a good idea to have something to transport them in. This is what I came up with. I'll install the door tomorrow.
Again you do great work! Looks very nice to have. :) Welcome to all the new people to BYC and this thread. I've not been around much since I have so much to do but if anyone needs to get ahold of me PM's normally get through. (if you don't get a response resend as I have had them vanish in to lala land before I get them) Chickylady! hows the house going? Hope everything is going well with you guys! Can you send me dave's email please? I seem to have lost it :/ Want to keep in touch with him :D Been hatching many blue eggs and getting pretty babies so the breeding projects is going good. Slowly catching up on all my outside projects and helping out with other's like the fencing which has been a blast :lau ok now to sleep with me... have chores, canning and dehydrating to do before I go to work for the day.
