Washingtonians Come Together! Washington Peeps

I do mine with tires...Google "Tater Tower" and look at Images.
Another tator tower can also be made with your plastic feed sacks. slit some drain holes in the bottom,
fill about 1 foot of dirt, plant potatoes. Just add dirt as they grow. This year i am trying it with burlap bags.

Love your veg. boxes Robin, Wish mine looked like that, :)

Anybody need a bag full of feathers???
lol.png
All the littles are doing their juvenile molt, my EE is still shedding feathers for some unknown reason, and my Barnie decided to join in the fun! What a mess! I need a herd of little kids that love soft fluffy things to come by every morning and stuff their little pockets full. Wouldn't their mom's just love me for that?

I'll be happy when they're done, and happier when the new girls start laying. I'm feeding 5 birds and getting zero eggs. sigh.

Loving this weather, I hope we're done with the dismal dreary stuff. I feel so much better when there's some sun and some warmth and I can go out and enjoy all the growing things. Even the weeds look better on a pretty day.

reynolds19k -- Jonathan, Welcome to the Washington Group, hope you can stick around and get to know us. This is a nice group.
Have you tried listing your roo on CraigsList. There are just too many roos and not enough homes. Sad, because they're such pretty boys and useful, too.

Matt.... nice pics, pretty roo, what breed is he?

To everyone else.... enjoy the day and remember to take a deep breath every now and then!

Carolyn, mites come to mind when you say your adults started dropping feathers too. Mites are REAL bad this year.
This chicken is the same age as my others (about 5 months old) - but has always been much smaller. I feel like I've seen her eating and drinking and she doesn't have any other visual things out of place, but for a while now (not sure how long, maybe a week or more) one of my chickens has been standing and laying down like this... a white fur ball with a beak sticking out. She doesn't seem to be in pain... but the others don't do this.

Any suggestions? Is she fine? Is she egg-bound? None of my chickens have layed an egg yet and are not on layer-feed yet.

I'm worried... any help would be appreciated. Thanks

She is old enough and may be internally laying. I had an EE doing this about the same age. I had to put her down. Feel in between her legs and vent area, where there is no muscle or bone, it should be soft but not feel like it is full of liquid. If she is internally laying it will feel like a water balloon that is squishy. It happens and there is no fix other than to end misery. My girl was full of liquid, about a liter.
Quote: Hinotori, Corid has a powder form too. I have it on had just in case.

The multi-quote feature doesn't seem to work with my iPad, but I wanted to thanks everyone for the offers to buy my pullets and coop. The lady who emailed me from CL was able to pick them up a few hours after I posted. She lives very close to me and her son raises hens to sell eggs and I think she is getting into breeding some of the more exotic type breeds. I am very relieved that they went to a good home and she has invited my kids and I to come visit them.

And for anyone who was interested in the coop, it was a pawhut (ie. cheap Chinese import) that I ordered from the website, frugah.com. I originally saw the coop on amazon (fulfilled by frugah.com) for $220 plus $30 shipping and sales tax.I went direct to the frugah website and was able to get the coop delivered for $198 (out of state so no sales tax and I found a 10% off coupon). The coop was small and kind of flimsy but it would have been okay for three hens. I had it set up with one longer run on one side instead of two short runs on either side. So for a temporary of grow out hen it would be great. For longer term use it would need some reinforcement and even then I'm not sure how long it will last. My two year old son kept trying to "help" during assembly and I was afraid he might break it. the wood was identified as "Chinese fir" which I think is another term for balsa wood, lol.

I'm bummed to no longer have my chickens, but I know I will have some someday. In fact, I just spoke with a builder and it looks like we might be able to build a home sooner that I though. I have my eye in some property in enumclaw, so hopefully this time next year we will be building a house and I can plan my dream chicken coop!

Ive been busy making small coops for chicks and pairs. Im showing you BEFORE painting , and after I get done painting. I can use it for chicks or for pairs of small chickens I hope to collect. They will have yaerd with them as well.Im also building a place on my patio to keep them. Wait ti you see my painted ones.Everybody wants to buy them Im not selling. Im putting a shake roof on the long one. These were free except, for the hardware cloth screws and staples. You wouldnt believe what I started with.My neighbors have taken before pix. Ill try to get them from him. These both have REAL, solid wood. No pressboard. Im not feeling well. But will paint them VERY cute.Ive already had offers, without my tole painting. But Im keeping these 2. When I feel better Im making some to sell. Some of these cages are for chicks Im going to raise. Some for special pairs. They will have a patio, and yard enclosures, I just thought others may like the ideas for BYC. I hope someones, out shopping for old consoles, dressers,And anything you can build with. Maybe family or friends have some freebees??? ,

Update, cleaned everything and separated her. Sent my father-in-law to the feed store and they told him they had corid for other animals and gave him a different powder that they said would be better for sick chickens. She is eating and drinking, but not pooping as far as I can tell. Going to give her some olive oil and apple cider vinegar tonight in case she can't poop.
If it's Cocci you need the Corid. What was it they sold your FIL? Powder makes me think an antibiotic which won't help with coccidosis. I've noticed a lot of the feed store people know very little about treating fowl. I always write down what I need and am very insistent. Most thing are off label for treating chickens.
Hinotori, Corid has a powder form too. I have it on had just in case.
I didn't know there was powdered Corid. That would be easier to store. I just know that the Dels has been bad for me. I went in last time looking for Eprinex and as soon as I said the word chicken they were trying to tell me I just needed the powdered antibiotic because it would work better.

so creative, hope you post photos after they are painted, too!

Thank you, I will do! So many animals, can use cages like this. Bunnies chicks, chickens, Guinea pigs etc. I just thought somone else, might like to use my idea. They will be one of a kind ,as everyone paints different. I paint, and tole paint. I added the top on the cubbard. And the little, arbors will go on each side of the long one. Im thinking of making a little garden bed, on top of them. I like to let them sit for a while. Til I decide, how they should be painted. Its fun to see when I get them all done. I used to make things like this to help support my kids, when they were young. Now they are grown, and LOVE the things I make. Ive always have had animals and made a lot of crafts. Have a great day ALL!

How cute!

Well my chicken days are over for now.
sad.png

I just had this coop delivered, assembled it, and hauled four eighty lb bags of sand and found out the girls are just too noisy for my tiny suburban backyard. I should have known better, but I really wanted to give them a try.

I posted an ad on CL, but if anyone here is interested, 3 pullets + coop + bag of feed and feeder/waterer for $100. I'm located in Maple Valley and would like them gone (to a good home) ASAP.

I'm sad as I liked my little chickens. I was really looking forward to watching them grow up and getting some eggs. My easter egger looks like she's going to be a real pretty girl too. And my salmon favorelle was a sweetie. Sniff, sniff.

First, I'm really sorry you can't have your chickens! I would really be upset if that had happened to me. I'm surprised they made so much noise they wouldn't be acceptable! I wish I hadn't already built a coop. I would have taken this in a minute!
Good luck to you.
