My chicks are hatching! So excited! I happened to walk in and heard them chirping and the shells cracking. I dont know how many will hatch, she has 18 eggs under her, but I hope its more than the one chick we had last year :)

Congratulations, keeping fingers and toes crossed for you!

Well, my d'Anvers broody is secure on the ground, ready to hatch chicks without launching them into space. I'll clean up the Tower of Solitude tomorrow and move Deary into it, and then start on the bantam grow-out pen.

That's the good news. The bad news is I figured out what killed Dave: gape worm. There was something questionable in his throat when I was tubing him, and his symptoms all come down to terminal Syngamus trachea infestation. So, I need to worm Bluebelle, sterilize the feed and water containers, worm Bluebelle, figure out where to move that pen, worm Bluebelle again, sterilize the food and water containers again, move the pen, and then worm Tertia and Ginjur before I move them in with Bluebelle and take receipt of Robj's Ameraucana rooster. And I am freaking out about how many of the slugs have been infested with the larval cycle gapeworm, and if my sweet gartersnakes are in danger of being infected, and how persistant and infectious that parasite is, since it seems to be mostly a big problem in pheasants?

I am displeased.

I was so desperately wanting Silkie chicks that I got impatient with waiting for eggs to hatch and I bought some colors I want to raise. Now I have 6 new chicks that hatched today along with the 16 chicks I bought and the 8 I had already hatched. I have another clutch due on the 18th followed by several more batches, including fertile eggs I purchased. I have two broody hens sitting on call duck eggs (11 each) since I only hatched three in the incubator and that just left me wanting more. I am down to my last Australian Spotted ducklings and the remaining Black Copper Marans cockerels from past hatches, plus some Barnevelders I can just now sex and some Orpingtons I have already sexed along with younger ones I can't sex yet (plus I am buying some lavendar Orpingtons to put with my blue Orpingtons because I have someone who wants lavendar after buying blues from me). After wanting Silkie chicks so badly it looks like I will need to see some because I won't have the space to raise them all. I made my selection on the chicks in the brooder and separated ones to keep from the ones to sell but I have to do the same with the newly hatched chicks now and they are too small to add in with the three day old chicks until they are more solid on their feet. In order to avoid overcrowding my brooder, I will need to list Silkie chicks on CL tomorrow. I do wish there was a better way to sell chickens than using CL but it is not likely they are a yardsale item.

Hey everyone, wondering if anyone was interested in taking in a young Roo hatched May 5. Free to a home (not dinner).

He is a cross between an Ameraucana/White leghorn rooster over either Red Star or Black star hen, has the pea comb so he should likely have the blue egg gene as well. I would keep him because he is friendly to people and protects his girls but his coloring means he isn't the cross I wanted.

Im in Tacoma and kinda new to this site. I have 2 birchen marans 1 lavender and 1 buff orpington, 2 americanas, 1 golden laced wyandotte, 1 welsummer, 2 salmon faverolles, 2 crested cream legbars. Im just a backyard keeper, wanting to have a nice colorful flock and some nice eggs to share :)

My brother built my coop 99% out of pallets, we love to upcycle!!
He also makes and sells nipple buckets!!

Heres a pic of my flock

Im still searching for a wheaten ameraucana pullet so if anyone has one local please email me!!
Lyn Apodaca have beautiful Wheaten Marans!! She's just over the bridge from you in the Gig harbor area. Pm me and I'll get you her info.
Although they are sterile, a Muscovy cross makes a good eating bird, and they are very pretty:

You don't have nearly enough - this would be a goodly number! (and that was less than half of them)
That's a lot of Quackers!!!
Very excited, we got our very first egg layed earlier this week from our Cuckoo Maran!!! She lays at about 1pm every day in the same spot on the floor. Can't wait for the rest of the girls to start laying... we've got lots of people in the house fighting to eat the one egg each morning :)

We met up with Lutefisk at Top Foods & then DH dragged me all over the county......................feed store, home depot, then Cabela's then Grays Harbor Co, Mom & Dad's, then pizza for lunch, then the other feed store, then we had to haul home to meet up with another chick buyer and a few egg buyers......sorry we did not get to stop by !

BUSY BUSY BUSY !!!!!
Next time you guys make it to Oly. Please add me to the visit list or maybe the few of us here can have lunch or a coffee/tea!
Well, stopped in to say HEY to everyone...
Now I am going out to deal with the newly installed back door in my new kitchen, which is still under construction.
Love the door, it is a 9-lite so it looks like a dutch door...very pretty & veiws out into the woods.

I am going to sell off a flock of 9 or 10 R/C LBLs....$5 each if anyone is interested.
(Rose Comb Light brown Leghorns)
anyone interested PM me.....I have them for a breeding project & now they must go.
8 are just 4 mo old now and have not begun lay yet.
They are flighty, and would be a great free range-roost in a tree-type bird that looks out for themselves.
Give me a PM if interested.
BYE GUYS !!!!!!!!!!!!!

How is you're Crele project coming along?
So here's something I'm doing today, I'm getting my Christmas list.going I'm going to try and quilt something for everyone on my list. Yep I'm the girl who like stress. Ha ha. But I'm really going to try.
Have fun and don't stress (to much)
Well shoot. I wanted to post some pics of the 2 chicks that are now 6 weeks (?) old. They are very nice looking orps/rir and jg/rir. Can't figure out how to do it. Machine just says wait. grrrrrr

Anyway I have 8 hens and got tadata! 9 eggs today. Each and every one is extra large (which is normal size for these girls). Some days I get huge JUmbo eggs, they won't fit an extra large carton. Ok now I posted them (still don't know how) and if you click on the pic they will enlarge.

They're lookin good! I like the color on the black one.
Check this out, in my 'backyard' :

We can see these worms from 50 yards away !
Some are 1" and some smaller....hairless, and very hungry !
Glad they like weeds and not my vegetables !
FYI: These are the larvae of the Cinnebar Moth,,bright red & black 'skipper-type' moths, who love ragwort, and this plant is a ragwort.
The moths were introduced here from various other parts of the planet, do eat the nasty ragwort, and they are doing their job nicely !
OOH! Those are cool!! If Mikayla saw those they'd all be living at my house

Have a GREAT SUNDAY Everybody!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Does anybody in Seattle or in the general area know of chicks for sale? I am looking for silkies & Easter eggers
